Jim
no indoor facility? that is kind of surprising.

Otherwise it looks like a beautiful building that will hopefully help us with recruiting and to keep up with the other schools in the MAC 04-rock
well, you can now see that the walkway is standalone and dosent connect the sides. i thought it would be cool if it did at first, but now that i think about it, it is kinda unfeasable the way our stadium is currently designed. also, is 9.5 million the total cost? maybe im dreaming, but i thought i read on here somewhere that it was in the range of 17 million. should be a great addition in any case.
Baker and Phillips on air made reference to getting phase I going before any phase II would be undertaken. The area north of A&APC is set aside as part of strategic plan ...ie Indoor Facility...perhaps that is where the total of 17 million figures....
that would make sense. is there really that much room in the north endzone tho?
Great presentation, but one thing was missing! Where is the indoor practice facility?! When preparing for the SVB, Joe kept saying how much we needed one. After the presentation, I asked about it and was told that the indoor practice facility was Phase 2 of the AAPC project. It's estimated to cost $5 million and will have a 100 yard field.

That's great, but it should have been mentioned during the presentation. Some people that were watching still think the indoor practice facility is part of Phase 1!
so it will be added down the road? when 5years, 10 years, 1 year?
I hope you all watched the video. It was intereesting.

They did make reference to all the other MAC schools 20-30 million dollar facilties, which kinda suprised me. So, because of that (and somone mentioned phases) I expect them to try and compete with those other programs and eventually put up a indoor facilty.
That's where the no tax dollars for athletic facilities in Illinois comes in to play. The Aurora Beacon article mentioned that the 3 Michigan schools all got facilities paid for by tax dollars. It's just harder to do anything here with the limitations. It is a good sign however, that the donors are starting to materialize to do something. This can only bode well down the road for future endeavors.
I didn't know about the tax situation. That would make sence. Although, with Illinois lack of tax revenue atm we wouldnt be getting facilities paid for my taxes anyways.

The state of Illinois will not provide tax dollars for NIU athletics period. End of story..(Sounds like alum 85 wrote this)
Unless of course the U of Ill makes a pitch in which case they will get some money from state because they are the "University of Illinois".
Maybe NIU should threaten to leave Illinois and move to southern Wisconsin. The same kind of move that the White Sox amde and got the taxpayers to pay for their new park.
"a bronze Huskie dog statue in the tunnel en route to the Brigham Field playing surface" 04-rock
how about putting the bell down there too?

Hey, we already recruite that area pretty well already. Could be a good move 03-wink
State law prohibits Illinois from funding college athletics - has been so for many years. If UI is getting assistance somehow -someway it has found a loophole and way to get around intent of the law......but I seriously doubt it.
