Temple looks to join MAC this year
No one is willing to commit publicly, but all signs point to Temple playing as a football only member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) this fall. The Owls could make a presentation to the ADs of the MAC schools next week during the conference meetings in Mobile, Ala.

While MAC commissioner Rick Chryst won't say that Temple is on the agenda, he is quite clear that the conference wants to expand.

"In February, the league presidents formally authorized us to look at expansion, and membership expansion is a high priority for the league."
Chryst was part of a four-man MAC contingent that visited last Friday to view the Temple campus and the football facilities.

So, is Temple in? Well, depends on who's website you believe. Temple shows their schedule for September 24th as a game with Middle Tennessee State. MAC member Western Michigan's web site has Temple playing WMU September 24th at Lincoln Financial Field.

And the scheduling gets crazy from there. NC State AD Lee Fowler (who has a game with Temple this year) reports that Temple reps told him that if the Owls could rearrange their schedule to play four MAC teams, Temple would be eligible to represent the MAC in a bowl game.

Along with Temple, DI-AA Gateway Conference member Western Kentucky is also believed to be trying to gain membership.
