Its not Toledo, Miami Oh, NIU, Bowling Green that made us make the decision to leave the MAC. It was the 7 schools that kept going .400 or below every year. Pruett and 2 other coaches in the conf sent a petition to the MAC to have it scaled down to 8-9 schools. Pruett warned the Comish of the MAC at the time if it wasn't done Marshall would walk some day. Petition was ignored Marshall left.

I saw this post on the C-USA board.

Think about this--what Coach in his right mind would sign a petition in order to influence conference officials? Putting a threat like this on paper is something beyond belief.

There are many more intelligent ways for a Coach to attempt to sway conference officials.

I have my own views about why Marshall left the MAC.

Well, on the one hand, we *are* talking about Bob Pruett.

On the other, we're dealing with what polite folks call "rectal sourcing."

I wouldn't over-read this.

Even if there is a measure of truth to what this Herd fan has stated, keep in mind he says the petition was passed to the MAC commissioner at that time......I think Chryst has been here since 1999.

There was some chatter in the late 90's that the Herd was considering a move to the WAC until things got rolling with the TV deal in the MAC.

For a long time, I'd preferred the 8-9 team MAC because I thought it would help build a TV deal faster and less schools per bowl. It was never clear as to who would make that final 8-9 school cut because some of the schools lagging in football and hoops have the bigger TV markets.

I've concluded your just as well off playing in a 12 team conference as a 9 team one for hoops.

Cutting the dead weight in football doesn't make the top schools stronger. Maybe in strength of schedule calculations the league looks a bit tougher. In actual ability to compete it doesn't make a difference with the best MAC level players already going to the best MAC programs.

Marshall is crazy if the MAC would kick out 3-4 teams that had been long time members. If Pruett was thinking Kent State, EMU, Ball State, and Ohio, I bet the MAC told him "How many basketball titles you got down there?", "How many baseball titles?", "How many soccer, wrestling, swimming, track, golf.....ect"

Notice the main posters slammin the MAC are UCF and Herd Fans... Can't say they moved up to CUSA so have to tear us down to make themselves feel better about the move...

MAC is gaining momentum... CUSA is losing theirs.

A few years ago, nobody knew who or where the MAC was. Anybody else remember the Directional Schools Conference jokes? Well, they're not laughing anymore...

NIU, BG, Miami and Toledo changed that. Now we see several other programs are on the rise, Akron among them. :D

Hey CUSA... put your money where your mouth is..

I propose a MAC-CUSA challenge weekend every season. Conference winning the most games gets an extra bowl bid ... Never happen.. .CUSA has too much to lose.....

I guess that's why Pruett isn't on any of those ESPN poker shows. You get burned big when someone calls your bluff.

The MAC kicked Marshall out of the conference a long time ago for legitimate reasons. Marshall was taking what they thought was revenge against the MAC. Many MAC fans such as I simply don’t care. When can we just remove their logo from this forum and forget it. Who’s the administrator of this forum, and why haven’t they removed the Marshall logo?

No, but you might get a kick when looking back on those letters she wrote saying, "I'm going to leave you and become a Hollywood starlet."

Especially when she just got rejected to be a Hooters girl, and is now waiting tables at the Waffle House.

hmm they wanted to down size while conf said want to biggie size that conf.

I really, really don't put much stock in this rumor. It sounds too stupid, even for Pruett.

If the new girlfriend represents Temple, she isn't very good. Maybe we can find a new girlfriend in Kentucky instead. You know what they say about those Kentucky girls!
