ffrom the Recourd Courier today: a new shooting guard and a preview of the 2005-06 hoops season. Looks like we get Rutgers and Illinois in a tourney. On the football front, I didn't realize our recent football recruit had inked with Clemsen first.

Kent State has added an athletic junior-college guard in Omni Smith to its men’s basketball roster for the 2005-06 season.

Smith will compete with junior Armon Gates and freshman recruit Mike McKee for time at shooting guard. Coach Jim Christian hopes Smith’s slash-to-the-basket style will be a nice complement to the long-range outside shooting of Gates and McKee.

“Omni is a guy who will give us a tremendous amount of versatility,
Here's a scenario. We have the big year we're anticipating, make the dance, maybe win a game. JC moves on for supposed bigger and better pastures. Rutgers struggles again (which isn't unreasonable since the Big East is loaded) and Gary gets fired. Gary comes back home to Kent and takes over the reign again and maybe takes some AD duties as well as i gotta believe Laing is close to retirement. Gary coaches for a few years and grooms Mance who takes over after 2-3 years and Gary becomes AD. Am i dreaming? Seems like a great succession plan to me.
Maybe you did not know but Gary fired Garland a few months ago. Mance has had the chance at several head jobs in the past few years and has lost out on all of them. click.
Thanks GFlash i did not know that about Mance. Well anyway Gary Waters and anyone would suit me fine. Is Coach D still with him? I know Heck left after 03-04.
Remember, and I love GW, but if he gets the heave oh, he is a loser like many others, and he is the one who abandoned a good program for one that is loser and always will be. Most people knew except GW. And yes, Coach D is still with the program.
Maybe he can bring Stan back as his assistant. Heath will belooking for work, too, if they don't make the tourney this year. 03-wink
GF68 nailed it. If GW is canned at Rutgers, he's not going to come back to KSU as the basketballl coach. But A.D? That's a very interesting idea.
Kennedy just accepted a five year appointment to one of the most prestigious NCAA committees. Maybe its just me, but I am having a hard time seeing him retire anytime soon
Our AD retired a long time ago. He is never seen in the community or no media promoting his program. He does that in retirement mode. :D
