Full Version: NIT Needed for College Baseball

Southern-tier schools have dominated college baseball for several decades. This includes teams from leagues such as the Sun Belt, Big West and Southland. This has made it nearly impossible for northern leagues to get more than one or two at-large bids.

Look who from the MAC is going nowhere in the postseason:

CENTRAL MICHIGAN 42-18
BALL STATE 38-18
BOWLING GREEN 33-18
KENT STATE 33-20

Why not have a collegiate baseball version of the NIT? That way schools who just miss out on the NCAAs can at least compete for a consolation prize.
College baseball = No Money

That's why.
Do you really think many schools make money (after expenses) playing Basketball NIT games or in lower-tier bowls? I think not.

I know of many cities who would drool over hosting such a tournament. And it can be set up w/o costing much to the participating teams.

Let the grass roots movement begin!!!!!

Real shame that CMU didn't get an at large winning 42 freakin' games! 03-puke

Ball State, BG and Kent all finish with at least 33 wins....nothing. 03-puke
If it makes you fell better UCF had 42 wins and was in the Top 25 for a good part of the year but will be staying home. St. Johns and at large and the ACC 7 teams ? The NCAA is not limited to bball and fball
There are so many fewer teams playing baseball that the 64 team field in the NCAA is like baskeball having a 73 team NCAA Tournament field.

WTF?
I lost you with "so many fewer..."
64 teams in the NCAA baseball tournament out of 285 equals 22.46% of Division I going to tournament.

In basketball 327 Division I schools. 22.46% of those schools equals 73.4 schools.
