Hey everyone... I've been browsing this site for the past week or so and have decided to sign up. I'll be attending NIU this fall as an incoming freshman. I followed NIU basketball and football last year since I knew I'd be going to school there.

I already purchased tix to the Northwestern game and would love to go to the Michigan game too.

One question... how much are student season tickets?

thanks,

Travis
Welcome to NIU.

They are "free", there is an athletic fee built into your tuition. All you need to do is show your student ID and you're in to any sporting event. For football, they may make students get their tickets in advance during the week before a game, but just need to show an ID then too.
Welcome 04-cheers
Welcome! Which high school are you from? Make sure you tailgate with all of us. I'll have an extra ticket to the Big House, but I'm sure there will be tickets floating around as the game gets closer. Just remember, don't stand too close to Dog Fan! Something else to remember ..... this is a great time to be a Huskie!

Welcome! Keep those studies up, enjoy college life (because you will look back one day and realize they were some of the best years of your life) and become a Huskie fanatic.

P.S. Don't plan on going to any men's basketball games until after next season. The trauma of how badly our program has been run into the ground by the current coaching staff will probably be too much to stomach. Wouldn't want to see you transfer or something.
Welcome aboard :newb: !! Be sure to spread the word about us, the more the merrier!! :)
I graduated from Normal West High School in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois.

Yeah I've seen that the basketball program is in sorry shape. I went to the game last year and was upset at the lack of attendance. Is NIU strictly a football school or what? It's a shame too... with its location (near chicago) the bball team should be good year in and year out. Of course, Illinois will always take the big names but I'd figure NIU should be able to compete with DePaul, Bradley, and UIC in the recruiting wars.

Thanks for the welcome... I look forward to my days as a Huskie!

Welcome to the boards!
Welcome, fellow down stater... I am from Pekin and Peoria Richwoods high schools - class of 1987. I remember many drives up Interstate 39 from Central Illinois as you will be doing.

There were only a handful of students from my high schools that went off to NIU. I pledged a fraternity - which was great for me, and have had a close knit group of friends ever since.

We closed our chapter in 1997 but I am spearheading our return to NIU for the fall 2006 semester (http://www.ThetaEta.com)

The best advice I can give an incoming student is to find something outside the classroom that will be fun and enrich you - both during college and beyond. When you interview for a job (that's why we go to college, right?) people will want to hear about practical experiences that relate to the business world. Being involved in the leadership of student organizations will give you that experience. At age 36, I continue to receive the dividends of my fraternity membership and experience in the marketplace.

Welcome to the fold. NIU football is a great tradition.
Welcome aboard trav! 04-rock 04-rock 04-rock 04-bow 04-bow 04-bow 04-bow You made a wise decision to attend NIU. What is you your major going to be? Make sure you keep up with your work your first year. Those gen-eds can kick you right in the a$s.

Stop by the Huskie Mobile at NU to say hi. Enjoy NIU, its fooball team and basketball team to be.

HAIL TO THE HUSKIES!!!
Trav....let me be the first to comment you on choosing NIU. What a great move. 04-rock

I think the key to college is balance....work hard and play hard. Get involved because cause the majority of what you get out of college isn't what you learn in a book, it's what you learn from the people and situations around you. But keepin' your nose in the books is priority #1.

I lived in your community for 7 years and loved it. Don't let old guys like us spoil your enthusiasm. Make the most of your time at NIU. It has its faults like any other university but can be the best years of your life.

My advice is to be proud of your school and network, network and network. Go to all games no matter how the team is doing

Trav,

I have a question for you. Have you gone through your orientation yet? If so, I'm curious what they tell incoming freshman about Huskie sports. Basically how much are they trying to sell you on going to the games and such.

I would hope they would be promoting football games especially with the parents there, great opportunity to get the family involved and sell some tickets in the process.
1. Read Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People this summer.
2. Next summer 2006 take at least 1 DIFFICULT class at your local community college.
Get it in writing that the credits will transfer to NIU.
3. Stay away from the brocolli/rice casserole.
The brocolli rice casserole is good stuf. The dorm "pizza" is bad news.

Havent been to orientation yet... coming up in just a little over a week. Thanks for all the warm welcomes and advice guys. Makes me even more anxious to start my career as a Huskie!

For the one who asked- I will be majoring in Kinesiology with intention to get a master's in Physical Therapy. Maybe you'll see me roaming the NIU sidelines someday as a trainer!

Thanks again all!
