Akron: 35,202; Turf
Ball State: 21,581; Grass
Bowling Green: 30,599; Grass
Buffalo: 31,000; Grass
Central Michigan: 30,199; Turf
Eastern Michigan: 30,200; Turf
Kent State: 30,520; Turf
Miami: 30,012; Turf
Northern Illinois: 31,000; Turf
Ohio: 24,000; Grass
Toledo: 26,248; Turf
Western Michigan: 30,200 Grass

With all the winning by Miami & Toledo, I am disappointed that they have the league's smallest stadiums. I thought they would be bigger than that.
Ohio is 22,000 with Field Turf.......27,000 standing room only. We have 22,000 in permanent stands, the rest being a huge SRO mound in the endzone.

Before the 2001 expansion, Ohio was 20,000 stands and 23,000 SRO. We added 2000 bench back seats in 2001.

Before the 1992 expansion, Ohio was 19,000 stands without SRO capacity. A thousand chairbacks were added to go with new press tower.

Before the 1986 expansion, Ohio was 14,000 stands with rotten wooden bleachers. Splinter Fest. 5,000 seats were added and the wooden bleachers were replaced with aluminum.

Peden has come a long way....
BTW, those numbers are few years out of date.

BG-Doyt Perry 28,599 grass
Kent-Dix 29,287 field turf
Akron-31,000 astro play
NIU-28,000 field turf
Ball State-22,500 grass

The trend in the MAC is away from the 30k monster parks toward comfy 25k stadiums. Ball State is planning an expansion to 25k. I think Miami's new capacity is 27k. BG is talking about downsizing to 23,500 with its new building in the endzone taking away capacity.
and if the word is correct, EMU will have some of that field turf or whatever the good stuff is called (ala CMU, I believe) very soon (this summer).

EMU supposedly was ripping out their old artirfical "turf" which was harder than... (fill in with your own choice of words) the end of this past week.

Done deal. The north bleachers are in the process of being torn down.
UB stadium is adding in Turf, will be ready next season i believe.
Any plans to take out the track while they're installing the new turf at UB? That would really be a nice improvement.

Actually Western Michigan currently has NeXturf™ artificial surface which was installed in the summer of 2001. Prior to that Western switched back and forth between real grass and artificial. Artificial turf was previously installed at Western’s Stadium from 1973-91. From 1992-2000, WMU played on Prescription Athletic Turf (P.A.T.), a natural grass surface with hi-tech drainage.

And the indoor football practice field at the far end of the stadium has "Field Turf"

SF:

I assume tearing down the bleachers is for the SEBO Center.

Also assume SEBO is "full speed ahead". Correct?

For any NIU poster:

What is the status of your practice facility? Has ground been broken yet or still soliciting more contributions?

Yes and yes. The Sebo Center should be done by fall, 2006.

Here is a photo of the bleachers. The seating is gone:

26,248 is the listed seating capacity. Our attendance record is 36,852.

When the stadium was renovated in 1990-91, I believe plans were also drawn up to increase capacity to the 40,000-45,000 range when it becomes necessary. Given our ability to draw into the mid-30s on occasion, it's not unrealistic to think it could happen.

Akron is now field turf, not astro play.

Toledo isn't growing as a school or a city, and the Rockets have maxed out as a program from wins to recruiting, no BCS conference on the Horizon.

I don't see 45,000 being needed, but it would probably be wise to have at least 35,000 seats instead of brining in the rent-a-bleachers.

The problem is its a lot of money to expand a stadium. OHIO needs to go bigger, but it will be years because of the money issue.
You're wrong.

And stupid.
I don't know that I buy the notion thast UT or anyone in the MAC has "maxed out" their potential. We all have our challenges to overcome, BG and UT included.

Here's link to the official "Bob" page. The video link will take you to a very nice eight minute or so feature on the building and it's importance to the program. It's great to see our University President publically voicing his support for athletics and the construction of athletics facilities, even in the face of decreased funding from the State.

Just for everyone's knowledge Ohio State and Michigan have maxed out also. It won't be long before they are averaging 60k.
Looking forward to the 2005 season at the Doyt! It will be weird to see those bleachers gone in the north end zone... The Sebo Center looks pretty good!
I clicked on Flipper's link. The center does look pretty nice. New is always good. It should help recruiting once this is built.

I also found something else that was a little interesting. I found a photo [which was probably from one of BG's higher attended games] where the band spelled out "Sebo." The aspect that I find interesting isn't the spelling of "Sebo" but the attendance. I've seen more people at a wedding than the Falcons draw to their games.
