Former dline walk-on Joe Kay gets 2 years in prison, according to today's Blade. This whole incident just p!sses me off. This is a perfect example of a wasted opportunity because someone can't swallow their pride and walk away.

On a related note, does anyone know what happened to Terrence Partee? As I understand he was suspended from team while the investigation was going on, but has he been allowed back on the team? Is he even still in school?
Partee is no longer on the team.

Joe Kay was a local kid (walkon) from Bedford HS. See what happens when we get kids from local schools other than St. John's? 03-wink
I'm somewhat happy with the result. If he doesn't learn after this, he won't ever learn. These are the types of people that need strict punishment.
Wow--I'm a little taken aback over that sentence. Not that it isn't appropriate, I just wouldn't have guessed anybody would get 2 years in prison over the incident. Let's hope the players all get a sobering message from this.

I was too...at first. After reading through it a little more, I found that there was possible permanent nerve damage done to the kid's hand. That is totally unacceptable.

Also, the judge made it sound like if he learns his lesson while in there, he could be subject to early release.

I admit that it does sound pretty harsh but only at face value, imo.

How can someone who was trying to make the team as a walkon, practiced for just a couple of weeks, and was dismissed before the season began be considered an Ex-UT athlete?
With all do respect, I have heard nothing but bad things about lots of kids from Bedford. Wasn't Gamby from Bedford as well?

Yes he was, but I really don't think juvenile delinquency is higher in Bedford than any other Toledo suburb. I don't know of any statistics, but I'd guess Bedford to be on the low side. Owtawa Hills has to have the lowest rates but I'd bet it wasn't zero.
I've known a number of kids out of Bedford over the years, including some football players. I've never met a bad one. Doesn't mean they don't exist, but I think they really ARE in the minority. That's a pretty tight community up there...sort of reminds me of my neighborhood as a kid.

I thought Gamby went to St Francis and won a State Championship? I thought he moved schools.
yeah, 2 years? I mean... it is not like it was attempted murder or something... i would have thought he would have gotten a couple of days... i wonder if he had priors? that may have made it more sensicle...

Yeah, Bedford is the Woodward of SE Michigan. 03-lol

I live in Bedford and can tell you there is barely any crime at all. A lot of the Bedford high school kids do take drugs like lsd, meth, pot. However, they don't tend to be the kind that get in fights and break into cars or houses or anything like that.
I'd say a lot of kids taking Meth is a problem...man, that is some crazy stuff. You don't see that everywhere.

Gamby went to Bedford high school at first. He played on the varsity football team at Bedford his sophomore and junior years. He then transferred to St. Francis for his senior season only.
With regard to the 2 year sentence, the victim in the case was very very badly injured. I saw the young man shortly after the incident.

And about Bedford students (and former students), I feel there is a significant amount of drug use in that community among youths but I suppose it strikes all of suburbia and the city equally.
