I have a question for you guys. Is it possible or does it make sense to get a free-for-all board within the MAC board? Nobody uses the smack talk board, instead posts are moved to it. The reason that nobody uses it is that nobody reads it. I post a lot of questionable stuff, especially in the offseason as do many people. A lot of people have expressed anger over these threads because they don't like to read about politics, smack, or non-MAC related topics.

People here don't post in the Spin Room because they aren't familiar with the posters there. This is more of a community here and people seem to post where they are comfortable. Does it make sense for the people who don't like reading that stuff and also the people who do like posting and reading that stuff, to have the smack board room name changed to a free-for-all which will include everything non-MAC and the MAC-related smack?

<a href='http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/mac/invision/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=21986' target='_blank'>Threads like this one would be a great example.</a>

It makes even more sense not to click on something clearly labelled as off-topic if you don't care to read it. Part of the reason this place is such a good community site is precisely because we don't just discuss MAC sports. Most of the off-topic threads don't belong on the Smack Board, and the Spin Room immediately lowers the IQ of anyone who even thinks of clicking it. There will be crybabies no matter what, and expecting MAC posters to stay on topic is probably the fastest way to kill this board. Make a separate section for non-sports posts and the very next thing that happens is that the folks who don't want off-topic threads start policing this board and bitching about every tangent a thread takes.

Personally, I'd get a bit bored with nothing but BG/UT pissing matches, Miami facilities, and Kent tiddleywink thread. Not that there is anything wrong with those, but, despite the PBR drinkers, we need a good beer thread now and then. And when you have beer, can goat porn be far behind? I think not.
Warm up to the lounge for OT stuff; it's been slow, but CUSA/MAC fans have began to use it.

Regarding the Spin Room -- it's great for political discussion, however the extreme left (Oddball) and the extreme right (thankfully none yet) tend to get drilled a new anal cavity in there. It's especially fierce to the extreme extreme lefties. The Spin Room overall is composed of the following, in order of magnitude:
- Middle of the road
- Libertarian
- Slight conservative
- Slight liberal
(massive dropoff here)
- Moderate conservative
(massive dropoff here)
- Extreme liberal (I think Dogger is the only one left)

LMAO!!! Yeah, that's it.
GTS, the problem with the spin room (for people here, I think) is that not many people are familiar with those posters. Though, I think that the majority of the posts there are fair and informed, people aren't comfortable with the posters. I have read Dogger's posts on that board and they are as off-the-wall there as they are here. Nonetheless, it is a good board but outside of Schadenfreude, Dogger, and Torch, I don't think that many here use it.

This was just a suggestion of mine. I'm probably treading water that I'm not qualified to be in, though.

You know, just re-reading that started me rolling on the floor all over again. Considering all of the wingnuts that post there, I'd have to wonder wtf it would take for you to consider someone "extreme right."

Maybe something like this is more "MAC related"?

DG, you are the first person that I think that I've ever heard say something like that. Having a summer place in Minnesota has been sort of a dream of mine since I was about 14 y/o. I'm now 25 and still hoping for that some day.

We used to go to the International Falls and Lake of the Woods areas of the state (the northern part). In what area do you stay?

It was a hope that after I graduated from undergrad, I'd head back up there. A couple years later and it still hasn't happened. I'm hoping to make it back up there next year. The amount of wilderness and lakes are amazing...truly a beautiful place to vacation. If I ever get money, I'll surely be spending some quality time there...unfortunately it only seems like a hope right now.

Exactly. They are extremists who start with the mistaken premise (imagine that) that they are moderates and then start the sliding scale from there. They look one way and see all of the "idjit libruls", then they look the other way and wonder why there are no right wing extremists.
I think that Attila the Hun would be shunned as a white wine sipping,
appeasing, whimpy libr'l in the Spin Room. It is truly an amazing place.
