Over 200 NCAA violations and cutting scholarships in almost every sport! What the hell is going on at that school?

<a href='http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2087914' target='_blank'>http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2087914</a>
Among the violations announced by the school in a release Thursday were: Ineligible athletes allowed to compete, improper conduct of coaches concerning a change of grade, recruiting violations and violations of practice time rules.

"We could be looking at multiple years of probation," said Hollins, who added that the school may be forced to refund money from NCAA basketball tournament appearances.

The investigation was the continuation of the one that showed 196 NCAA rules violations throughout Florida A&M's athletics program and led to the school stripping itself of 11 conference titles, including two in football.

Hollins said that was the midpoint of the school's investigation, and the school feels that the number of violations is now "well over 200."
I believe Howard Snellanberger is the HC, if that tells you anything.

Uh...no. Schnell is the head coach of FAU in Boca Raton. FAMU is in Tallahassee. Schnell has done a fantastic job at FAU thus far.

His restaurant is not too bad either.

I do think the NCAA ought to issue death penalties more often than it has.

Thing is, is this scandal wholly new, or has Florida A&M been put on probation recently a couple of times?
I think you have to be a repeat offender over a predetermined time period to get the death penalty. FAM doesn't quality. From what I read, the department was mismanged. In addition, they had a tv with a new network that was more smoke and mirrors than cash. In the end, they rushed to go D-1 for the tv contract. The school started taking shortcuts to compete at the D-1. The department was mismanaged and the tv money never paid. So, the house of cards fell apart. Its a shame because it would have been an interesting experiment. They draw fairly well and they probably would have attracted a following as the only historically black D-1 program.
Were any violations discovered in the "Marching 100?" They have one of the best bands of the HBCU's if not in the nation.

(Factually based, not a joke) I believe they were on a Tampax commercial a few years ago...

It is a new problem, so I don't think the death penalty will be given. However, the scandal extends beyond the athletic realm and into the academic. There have been many reports of money going to people who don't work there, faculty taking university money, etc. It will take a while for the university to get back on its feet.
FAMU's band is exceptional. They were a big reason why
the Rattlers led the nation in 1AA football attendance
last year.
FAMU has a total systematic breakdown starting at the top with a total lack of leadership.

They should get rid of every single person in charge of or had to do with the affairs that led to this debacle.

They're not too bad, but they've raised the prices and 'lessened' the portions, a usual 'no-no' in that industry. A chicken sandwich is now a minimum of $8. We ordered an appetizer of spinach and cheese dip or something like that, and instead of a bowl of dip it came in a small little cup, like the one used for salad dressing and they gave us very few chips for a reasonable $7!!!!!!!
Needless to say...I haven't been there since.

I would have complained to the mgt.Especially if you go to the competition like Brewwzi's and get something like the" Mile HighMeatloaf".The first time I ordered that I bust out laughing when they brought it to the table because it was so huge.
When all the smoke clears...some coaches will be gone and able to sometimes find new positions without dire consequences. Schools and teams suffer the most and often the individual perpetrators feel the least of the heat. Appears like this was a situation getting out of control 05-nono

FAMU plays 4-5 "neutral/off-site" games per year...and counts many of them as "home games".

That's how FAMU can get several crowds of 50,000-70,000 plus per year...yet only average between 11,000-18,000 for their home games in Tallahassee.

When FAMU hits the road with their band, many in minority community in the game host city will turn out to see them play, and also, bands from the other teams as well.

It's an event (hence the FAMU/BCC Game in Orlando that has drawn sold-out crowds of 70,000 almost every year since they moved it from Tampa to Orlando).

Oh, great. Now one of our 2 wins last year will go in the record book as a 1-0 forfeit.

Thank God for Syracuse.
