that crack don't some itself. Numbers 51-76 in their preseason poll were unveiled. They really don't respect the MAC at all:

70 - Northern Illinois
66 - Toledo
51 - Bowling Green

Miami is the only MAC team that hasn't been ranked yet. Judging by their #51 ranking of BG, the Redhawks can't be much further. My guess would be mid 40's, which is sad. They are trying to say that no MAC teams is a Top 40 team this year. Ranking BG at #51 is absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah CFN is telling us BG is only 2 places higher than northwestern 03-banghead and Illinois has one spot on NIU 03-nutkick Some OOC wins are in need to help them with their logic
Honestly, who takes CFN seriously? I like to read it since they make a nice effort to cover some interesting subplots/stories in college football, but their analysis is very weak.
BG's defense needs to prove itself. Without it, BG could easily lose to Boise and Wisconsin.

Given where those teams will finish, if BG loses to both, it's understandable why they wouldn't be thought of as a Top 40 team.

Honestly as far as these lists go...their importance is way overstated. It happens every year that Team A beats Team B who beats Team C who beats Team A. And they all end up w/ 8-3 records...so who's better!?

Nevertheless, since people read, believe and their perceptions are influenced by all of this, it's frustrating to see the MAC slighted year after yeat.
Me thinks CFN is dyslectic.

The REAL values:

Bowling Green: 15

Northern Illinois: 007

Toledo: 666

They look about right. Is 15 the number of trees in BG?

Exactly. I'm amazed and how worked up people get over these subjective rankings. A poster on the NIU board wants to cut the MAC membership in half because of ESPN's 1-119 rankings and the fact that they have several MAC teams at the very bottom.

We have THAT many trees???? Wow....I must have missed a few. 03-lol

This is a joke.

Miami, BG, UT and NIU all should be ranked, IMO, in the 25-40 area...give or take a couple of spots.

Almost every other poll has BG in or near the Top 25....

Torch makes a good point about the perception of the MAC nationwide.
Guess we'll have to go out and beat up the BCS teams again. 03-razz 04-rock

GO FALCONS!! GO MAC!!!

I understand where you two are coming from, but the problem is that Fox Sports uses CFN's material on their site. So we have CFN and Fox Sports spitting out this crappy information. That hits a lot of people and you will be surprised at how many people believe everything they read.

I personally know that CFN is clueless, but the other hundreds of thousands of people in this country that read CFN and Fox Sports might not know or understand that and that is where the problem lies with CFN's ridiculous rankings and crap.

Stupid people voted Marion Barry back into office after prostitute and cocaine scandals, at least one of which was on videotape.

I try not to get too worked up over stupid people - they're not likely to become unstupid anytime soon.
I doubt that any teams on Toledo's schedule this year prepare for them as if they're the 66th ranked team in the country.

I think BG is a top 40 team.

This is just me, but I think Toledo is a 55-65 type team. They got beat sound by most of their OOC opponents last year.

I don't know how much their defense has imroved.....if it's significant then maybe they are deserving of a higher ranking.

To me 66 doesn't seem that unfair.

TKT,

But the thing about UT getting drilled by OOC opponents is it happened LAST year.

The Rockets will be a solid team...bank on that. I happen to think BG, Miami, UT and NIU are all pretty even across the board.

We'll find out soon enough! 04-rock 04-rock

Coming into the season you have to base a lot of it on what the Toledo defense did last year and the fact that Bruce has 2 offseason surgeries on his throwing hand, so I can understand the low ranking for Toledo. The low ranking for BG and NIU is completely ridiculous though.

Miami I guess is ranked the highest at 49th. When was the last time the MAC did not have a school ranked in the Top 40, either preseason, during the season, or at the end of the season? I can tell you it has been quite a while.

The preseason mags have BG as a top 30 team. CFN has no clue and unfortunately a lot of people will read these previews.

And what the hell does a disclaimer of these are the rankings at the beginning of the season and not how we think they will be at the end of the season mean anyway? Are they saying that they are just throwing rankings out to start the season that aren't right because they think the rankings will be different later? Sure as the season goes on teams will move up or down the rankings, but a ranking is what you expect to see of a team. It appears that CFN is saying that this is our ranking for these teams after last season ended and this year the teams will be ranked differently but we won't even guess yet and rank them wherever we want to with our eyes closed.

In NIU's case, they must assume that our QB-to-be this year will absolutely suck. Our defense did lose some players, so I could see us being a little lower, but certainly not THAT low. In BG's case, I guess CFN is assuming BG's defense will be bad enough to give up, like 50+ points a game, because most teams will require that many points to beat them.

But I guess after a few joints I might be able to rationalize it too. Nah. Anyway, CFN's analysis is usually way off base.
