I'm skipping the Zips "marquee" game @ Purdue this year and heading down to Murfreesboro. Tennessee should be pretty nice in late-September. $140.00 round trip from Cleveland to Nashville, and, I have an opportunity to see the Zips win a non-conference "roadie." I haven't seen that since Navy in 1999.

If anyone has a link to an active MTSU board, it is greatly appreciated.
Where's good ol' Blue Raider Pride when you need him? 03-lol

What's the atmosphere in Annapolis like? My wife and I are going down for the Flashes game on 10/15. The game is at 1pm. Is there anything special that happens on campus early like parading of the middies or anything that we would want to be there for? Tailgating? How about parking and traffic? We are staying in Alexandria, VA and driving in. Any tips?

The atmosphere is nice. Good size crowd but not too many headaches.

I've always had luck parking at the church that's located on the street to get to the stadium. It's not much farther than the main parking lots, and getting in/out is fast.

Take some time and head down to the harbor...it's beautiful and the Statehouse and colonial architecture is wonderful.

I'm not aware of anything before games like parades, but you'll often get a fly-over right before the game starts.

Alexandria is a bit of a drive, give yourself time to cross the Wilson Bridge. That's a challenge to predict what traffic will be like. Better yet, stay closer to Annapolis if you can.
My dad used to work at the Naval Academy. The campus has a great atomoshpere and it is cool to watch the midshipmen gather and march prior to dinner, etc. BUT, their football field is somewhat off-campus, so I am not sure if they march to games or get bused to the stadium. That said, if given the opportunity to see my team(OU) play at any of the service academies, I would make the trip!

That looks like a great on-line nickname.

I'm going to use it if I ever go to any MTSU forum boards.

Thanks for the info.

Staying in Alexandria because we have free lodging and babysitting with my wife's sister and her family. Makes it a cheap trip! :D

A Flashes win would make it ideal! 04-rock
I have nothing to add here, Cap'n, other than to say that I really enjoyed your subject line.

But beating Purdue in front of 60,000 is a great experience! 04-rock 03-wink

And the Boiler fans were, by far, the most cordial of any Big 10 team's stadium I've travelled.

It was initially labeled as "Big Blue Foam 'Middle' Finger". It was quickly changed after a comment from numerous board members.

Good choice. I hope you have a great time. Second Avenue in Nashville is a fun place to spend an evening. Tailgating in Murfreesboro before the game should also be a lot of fun.
I made the trip to Akron last season, and we had a great time tailgating.

We will be having a large GoMTBlue.com tailgate before the game. All Akron fans are welcome to stop by.

Come by our message board if you have any questions regarding directions, places to eat, etc.........

Tips....

1.Alexandria VA is one hour from Annapolis......I would depart 2 hours before game time if you want to make it, if not earlier. The parking is very tough in Annapolis.

2.The tailgating is a full city block around the stadium probably 3-4,000. I haven't been since the Mids were good but it could be even more intense.

3.The stadium has the look and feel of a ship. The setting is pretty average.

4.After the game take a 15 minute walk to downtown Annapolis the capital of Maryland. A historic area beautifully redone with million dollar row houses. Over 20 eating/drinking establishments.

5.On the waterfront of Annapolis you have the Chesapeake Bay marina one of the finest in the US. This is down the hill from the statehouse. You can take a boat ride into the chesapeake (as I did for a birthday) and see the Naval Academy with some destroyers docked.

6.Maryland Crab. Everything is about the crab and seafood so if you want to be authentic eat seafood afterward.
