Sorry guys but I'm a little confused. What is the best possible bowl that a MAC team could go to? Forget an undefeated season with a possible BCS bowl. Correct me if I'm wrong but the ideal season for NIU would be to win the MAC Championship game in Detriot (obviously) and then go to the Motor City Bowl and win that as well? Am I right?

Thanks

-Travis

You are wrong - the best game would be for a MAC team to be playing for a National Championship at one of the BCS bowls.
He asked what the best bowl would be that is not a BCS bowl.

The concrete answer is the Motor City Bowl since you win the conference. But it could change with the availability of other bowls from conferences that don't qualify enough teams or teams that are bowl ineligible or whatever. However, NIU or other MAC schools would have to be an at-large bid for that bowl. The Peach Bowl or Outack Bowl and others would offer higher payouts than the MCB.

You are 100% correct! If not a BCS game then I say Detroit.

One thing I was thinking though, given the intense Hurricane season and the near miss of Mobile, what happens if the stadium is destroyed by a direct hit later this year and can't be played in Mobile? Is it moved to some other stadium in Alabama? Is it just cancelled? Does it go to one of the participants stadiums? Just some thoughts that probably don't have answers at this time.

Well one of the NASCAR tracks WAS damaged. About $200 million worth, if I remember. They dont race there again until Sept. So I would guess that 3 months would be enough time to fix that. So 6 months should be enough time to repair a football stadium. (I don't think a hurricane would completely destroy a stadium). If the repairs aren't made in time, I doubt it would be moved to one of the participant colleges. Who would want to go to a bowl game up north in -0* winter? Not me, unless it's NIU playing in Huskie Stadium.

A lot of things will be considered like where the other games are played that day/week, what the game sponsors and colleges and conferences decide, and what stadium could accommodate a post-season game.

Must I repeat myself? What is the best possible bowl that a MAC team could go to? Forget an undefeated season with a possible BCS bowl.

Thanks Huskiepride for the answer I was looking for!

Didnt say it wasnt possible. I just wanted an answer to a specific question... I didnt ask "what is the best bowl game?" The answer to that is the National Championship Game and that is obvious.
As far as payouts go and something realistic, the Independence Bowl in Shreveport wanted us this past year if there wasn't going to be a rematch with Iowa State. That would be better from a payout point of view and possibly a higher profile than the other bowls (GMAC and MCB).
I think the Motor City Bowl could be huge for NIU. Set aside all BCS games as you mentioned, I'd love to see NIU go to Detroit. I imagine the fan support would be great and it would put our game in the heart of MAC country.
