Always nice for us folks in MACland (Ohio, Indiana & Michigan) to get some good national press, and it seems we Midwestern farmland hillbillies have scored some points in the latest "Best Places to Live" survey done by Money magazine.

Ohio ranked 7 communities on the list, 2nd only to California with 11. Michigan also put 4 towns on the list. My current hometown of Powell (just north of Columbus, OH) came in at #18 in the Top 100. We must be doing something right ... I was always under the impression that in the eyes of the national media, the middle section of the country in-between both coasts was just a backwards black hole, teeming with under-educated, overweight WalMart shoppers.

Take it from me, #2 is very, very nice! :bluethumb:
East Amherst (right next to UB's North Campus) was ranked #41.
And we live in Naperville, IL. Very nice town! Only bad thing is the property taxes!

Ditto for #39 Rochester (MI).

I know that all too well. Our county has maxed on the property tax rise the last 2 years (maybe the last 3).

But Naperville sucks.

Glad someone else realizes that. :D

I can't be too harsh though, both of my parents live there.

29 Tolland, CT 14,400 Hartford

Did Comissioner Rick Chryst write the article?
YOU GUYS FAIL TO STATE THAT THE #1 TOWN IS 10 MINS TO CENTER CITY PHILADELPHIA.....

*****************************
I LIVED NAPERVILLE FOR 15 YEARS... IN CENTURY HILL Our backyard became naper boluvard.

population was just at or under 10,000 in 1980...

traffic is absolute hell and if your kid doesn;t drive a porsche to school your a nobody.
Century Hill is still pretty nice, Victory Engineer..........nice big trees over there since it was developed a few years back. Traffic is hell and getting worse every year........can't say I know anyone who has a Porsche, though.
Chatham, NJ makes it as a finalist??????????????????

You can not buy a house in that town of under $500,000!!!!!!!!!!

Give me a friggin break. This whole survey is a joke.
How else is one to keep out the riff-raff?

I share your confusion over the degree to which Money factors in affordability. Their highest rated choice in Maryland (Gaithersburg) is widely considered hereabouts to be, at best, about the fourth-most-desirable 'burb in Montgomery County behind Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and Potomac, which are significantly closer to Washington and have more highly regarded high schools. But the latter three all have ridiculous housing prices -- I think the median home price in Potomac is up around $750,000 these days.
A town ranked as 28th apparently doesn't exist. Just like the new addition, also from Pa., to our conference really doesn't exist either

If you are into outer ring suburbs and that sort of thing, than it isn't a joke, I guess.

Different strokes for different folks.
Solon, OH!?

Gents, I used to live in Solon. It's a freaking hell hole. The people are awful (you are what you drive), the traffic is a mess, they city leaders get nervous if there is a patch of grass with no concrete over it, and the people suck.

Ironically my wife wanted to move there because it reminded her of Dallas TX. I didn't want to move there because it reminded me of Dallas TX. We finally moved out of there after four years because she finally came to the realization that the place was quite a bit like Dallas and the surrounding areas - especially the people.

Solon sucks.

I now live just north in a small burb called Chardon. I get more house/property for my buck, the people are great, the schools are far better than Solon, and we have something called 'trees'. Unfortunately, all this may go away because we're getting a Wally*World 03-banghead
We're goin bowlin,
so don't lose her in Solon.
Moon over Parma, tonight.

:D
All ten of the top ten cities for number of golf courses are in Illinois.

What's that all about?

Oh...I see.....none of the ten most educated are there.

Asked and answered.
