Cox advances to Ohio Women’s Amateur quarterfinals
From staff and news services

SOUTH EUCLID — Lima’s Jenna Cox moved into the quarterfinals of the 82nd Ohio Women’s Amateur golf championship with a victory over Holly Niederkohr on Wednesday at the 5,875-yard Mayfield Country Club.
Cox, a former Shawnee and current University of Iowa golfer, defeated Niederkohr on the 19th hole. Cox led by five holes early in the match before Niederkohr, a Michigan State player, came charging back to tie the match after 18 holes.
Cox, who finished second in Monday’s qualifying round, will meet Carling Coffing, of Middletown, today. Coffing golfs for Ohio State.
Another Lima golfer, Kristin Tremoulis, fell 7-and-5 to Lynn Thompson. Tremoulis, who plays at Elon University, is a Lima Central Catholic graduate.
The top qualifier, Anne Caja, of Solon, defeated Brittany Johnston of Akron 1-up to move into the quarterfinals. Caja will face Dublin’s Amber Churchill today in her next match.
The championship flight concludes Friday with 36 holes of match play.

Cox was reportedly going to attend Toledo. Obviously she was overqualified. Too bad she didn't consider a MAC university
