I know some teams do not have permanent indoor facilities...I know Kent has had one and Akron has a new one...How much did that structure cost the Zips...I was surprised to find out the "mighty" longhorns of Texas have only an air "bubble" Dome as thier indorr facility...it cost them only $4 Million! That seems pretty attainable by today's cost of Building... should more schools go this option if they don't have a facility in place or is better to build permanantly?
The University of Iowa got a bubble back in the Hayden Fry glory days of the late 80s and early 90s. Last year they took it down and are building or have completed a new permanent indoor structure.

My thought, based on the above, is that a bubble is a temporary and cheap solution to an indoor practice facillity. Basically all a bubble amounts to is an indoor field, sometimes less than the 120yds. of a normal field. If you are going to shell out $4million for a bubble why not wait till you can raise another 4-6 mill and build an actual facility that would include offices, trainning rooms, weight rooms, mtg. rooms etc.
Good Point Sir! I guess that is one of my questions a good permanent structure only cost 4-6 million more? that is not that much more I was thinking more like 15-20 million to build such a thing...I guess if it is only that much more a couple of million is worth it...does BGSU have an indoor facility?
WMU Broncos facility here stands eight stories tall cost $25,000,000 and was completed in 2003. Now add per year inflation to when you plan on completion and what do you have? The money figures that you are throwing around will get you nothing but a poll barn with a roof so low that your kicker will hit the ceiling every time.

bronco,

I've never been to a WMU bball game but I have been to a FB game. Is the structure at the end of the stadium, a basketball arena or an indoor practice facility? I assumed it was the basketball arena. If it is the practice facility then I am seriously impressed.

Yes. It was built during the early 1990s.
$25 mil?

Got anything other than a football field in there?

We built a 19,000 seat arena in North Little Rock for just a little more and that included purchasing land. Adding risers, seats, plumbing for that many people, plus concession stands with their plumbing and electrical issues, luxury suites, and a hefty air conditioning system that can cope with that size of crowd is expensive.

At that price I'm guessing it includes a higher caliber artificial turf which will run $600,000 or more and offices and meeting rooms for the team along with the required equipment (everyone seems to be going digital on game film and loading it on a server and them set-ups run in the hundreds of thousands).

It is their indoor practice facility.
That's not the basketball arena on the end???

That's one hell of a practice facility. I'm assuming it also has meeting rooms, the weight rooms, locker rooms, etc?
Yeah, it has their pratice field in it, but it's not just a football building. It is also used by other sports and has offices and such. I'm sure a Bronco fan could tell you much more about it. It does not contain their basketball arena.

No, it is not our basketball arena. It is an indoor practice facility with field turf. It also has corporate boxes, offices and some exercise equipment. But the weight room, locker rooms, team meeting auditorium, and football coaches offices are on the visitors side of the field across from the press box.

The Perry Field House (PFH), built in 1993, is an $8.7 million facility. The 127,000 sq. ft. PFH has two large wings: the turf room, a 100 x 60 yard field covered with synthetic turf (including four batting cages), and the track room, a 200-meter track encircling four courts for basketball, volleyball, or tennis. Administrative, Intramural, and Sport Clubs offices, locker rooms, and meeting rooms are also included. The PFH is primarily a "scheduled use" recreational facility for physical education classes, intercollegiate athletics, intramural games, sport clubs and special events, but drop-in activities (basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, etc.) are encouraged when space allows
Well, no metter the cost, Western's facilities are very nice.
