Quote:Today is a bunch of BSing and golfing. Tonight would make for some great gossip. All of the coaches and SIDs go up to the hospitality suite and shoot the bull. Meanwhile, the player from each goes to the casinoes and blows the university money (I made that part up).

Tomorrow, is the actual meet the media and preseason predictions.

Once more, a KSU journalist adds value. :D

I'm sorry all the stories relating Temples inclusion w/scheduling benefits to basketball and Olympic sports w/the MAC is not MAC related. Also, the thinking that Temple has made a potential all inclusion deal in the near post Chaney future ( due to the fact noone in their right mind would take Temple football w/some kind of benefit not attached is nuts) hasn't be thought of.

Your relative ignorance of the race card is a guide to your lack of real evidence to the nature of Temples location. You bring up other inner city schools that play football and basketball. Yeah, they do it competitvely, Temple doesn't. Take USC, never been there, but if the location is bad, they bring a competitive program to the table. So the cost/benefit. And so on w/all the others. We took a sh%t location school w/no REAL program and added them to the MAC a midwest conf.. No other confer. in the country would even consider that. If USC wanted to join the MAC I'd do it asap, because they actually play football and were not kicked out of conf that kept Rutgers and had several departures and were looking for replacement schools.

You've brought and got drown on all your ridiculous arguements so the race card was bound to happen. Next time use the card properly. BTW, I'm a minority.

BTW. I'm not real keen on Belfast, Ireland either. I guess I'm anti Irish, as well.
Can't we all just get along? 03-wink
it's OK for USC to be improvised area & put students in danger because they win. It's OK for IVY leauge schools to be in same area & same concerns, But those schools are prestiges. But Temple is crime infested rat hole because they avg 2 wins in FB & haven't been to NCAA in 4 yrs. COULD SOMEBODY EXPLAIN THIS TO ME
I do welcome Temple to the MAC. I hope that they will add to MAC and help us grow as a conference. Buffalo, Akron, Toledo, and Temple are urban universities. Its not fair to compare those schools against college town schools like Miami, Ohio, Kent, BGSU, NIU, CMU, WMU, Ball State, and EMU. Students choose a college for different reasons. Some like the city and some the small town atmosphere. Philadelphia has a lot of problems just like Detroit, Chicago, and Cleveland; however, all four cities are great sports towns and the MAC is part of it. Temple fans need to show up to games and support their school just like the many MAC fans do already. Temple may not have a winning tradition; however, things can change quickly in the MAC. We had doubts about NIU, Akron, and Buffalo in the 90's. Competing for a championship earns you respect. Buffalo in basketball and NIU in football have earned that respect of the MAC's longtime members. Akron has also emerged as a force in both football and basketball. It was only a few years ago that NIU, Akron and Buffalo were automatic W's in both sports. Now things are much different. Temple fans need to realize the history of MAC expansion. Except for Marshall football, expansion into the MAC means a few years of paying dues.

I grew up in the Philly suburbs. Still have family in the area. Visit the area twice a year. I know the city very well but thank you for your insights

Temple C.C. played at the vet before the Linc. Played one or two years at Franklinn Field. I saw the Hardin years and beyond. Randy Grossman ( Temple TE and Steelers TE lived close to me as did John Cappaletti, Penn State great).  The Liacourous Center self named by its own president is nice, although for its time McGonigle hall wasn't bad ( played there as a youth). The location is not Disney World. Its a bad area. If you are content w/Temple as a football only member, fine. But if you are going to add other sports than you have to go into the warzone of North Philly. Times have changed. Check a UCR book for further info..

p.s. I didn't realize you couldn't be from a remote sun belt area to post. Does that limit are fellow texans, as well ?
Connerito:

Next time you are in Philly, check out the Temple campus. The area is picking up, lots of new student housing and re-development around the area. There are now nearly 10K students living on campus (compared to 3K 10 years ago). The area is getting better. It's still not Disneyland, but not as bad as you remember.

Ball State and Buffalo are just as bad as Temple and you know it! When we play a full schedule we will see who beats who!!!

The thread was about football, not Olympic sports. And I and several other folks around the league on these boards have pretty solid information that the all-sports membership is forthcoming when Chaney retires. Finally, the fact that ESPN was, and I quote from my source, "very receptive" to the idea of adding the Philly TV market to the MAC television package likely helped the MAC's decision-making process here.

well.

First of all, learn to write coherently -- your paragraph above makes little sense. But nice try at moving the goalposts there. As to the "real evidence" to the nature of Temple's location, well, again, I've not only been there several times recently, but also spent significant time there, also more recently than you. I know better than you what the campus and the surrounding neighborhood are like right now. And we all know damn well what your earlier posts were meant to infer, and it wasn't the relative competitiveness of Temple's athletic teams.

Your comparison to Rutgers is a strawman. Temple was a member of the Big East in one sport, Rutgers is an all-sports member. And if you believe the Big East would have moved to kick Temple out had they known they were about to lose Miami, Virginia Tech and Boston College to the ACC, your drink is stronger than it should be this time of day.

Quote:You've brought and got drown on all your ridiculous arguements so the race card was bound to happen. Next time use the card properly. BTW, I'm a minority.

Yeah, right. Sure.

(BTW, pointing out racism in a statement isn't "playing the race card," as you right-wingers are so fond of bleating. It's calling out stupidity).
Papa,

Having to chuckle at your response. You have no idea whether I'm a right winger or not. I guess those who loathe catholicism tend to think church goers are evil doers as you have assummed. I go to curch every week, so I must be a right wing evil doer in your eyes. Grow up w/the bomb throwing.

Tell me where I suggested race, as a minority myself, was predicated to the criminal area involved ? Am I the racist by suggesting such ? Maybe your inner thinking takes you places that it shouldn't and you may be the one w/the problem. A criminal area of whites, latinos, chinese or african americans is crime all the same. Again, I must be anti-Irish for my dislike of Belfast or anti jewish for the problems in Israel or etc.. How do you know more about the campus than I ? Do you know me ? In the same sense I cannot state the same about you. Nor will I attempt to. To state facts I know quite abit about the area and have been there recently quite often.

Did Temple play in the Big East last year when all the powers were out ? Yes. Was the Conf. USA teams invited or admitted before the decision to continue to let Temple out, when it could easily had said Temple stay ? No. Whos drinking what ?

Stay on course young man. Theres more to an arguement than pulling the race card but if you have nothing else, I can't argue w/you
Sure, pal. Up is down. And the sky is green. Whatever.

You have no idea how pathetically hilarious your last post was, on so many different levels.

But riddle me this: how come Temple reportedly got an offer to join C-USA well *before* the conference shuffle, if they are such an undesirable member to have around? Think hard (I know that's difficult for you).
You're confused and for that I apologize. Now go back to the playground and meet up w/your little friends. This is well above your pay grade.
Ah, if he only knew...

03-lol
Temple is one of the few football programs I can laugh at as KSU football fan. Keep BG under 70 points before I can take Temple football seriously. Temple just got kicked out of league that lost 3 members for being so pathetic. You add nothing to the MAC.

I won't speak for Papa, but you're coming across as about a GS-5. Care to restate?
I for one, believe that Temple will compete very favorably with the MAC. I suggest that some of us may be setting ourselves up for a steady diet of crow. I am perturbed that Temple did not bring all sports. I feel strongly that the MAC, like the really major conferences, should be all sports or nothing for membership.

Probably white, "christian", male. The most persecuted minority on earth, to hear them tell it.
Ah Oddball returns,

My favorite catholic basher, still hating us, uh.. Actually I'm latin, fyi, but good guess for a short sighted individual.

Thank god I'm not a white christian guy though, that would be terrible.
