OK, so it’s a slow time before fall practices begin. That means there is no better time to look at week #1 and offer some early predictions to get some fun responses. I remind everyone that historically I am 80% on picking the winners and 63% picking against the spread (none listed below). Here ya’ go.

Purdue 48 – Akron 13
Akron is breaking in a new team and sadly for the Zips they are playing against one of the top-15 teams in the country in my opinion. Purdue will romp.

Iowa 52 - Ball State 10
Brady Hoke is one of the good guys in the MAC coaching ranks and he deserves a schedule much kinder than what he has been given this fall. Iowa is a team I believe can win the national title (or lost to USC). This will be ugly.

Bowling Green 41 – Wisconsin 27
I am MAC being a “MAC homer

Nick, the 2004 Motor City Bowl is already over.

Let it go.

South Carolina will win, But Steve Superior does not have the 1997 Gators with him. If he did, I would agree with this score.

KT, you should try a bowl game sometime. They're especially fun if YOUR team is playing.

You're not in this conference anymore, let it go. 05-nono
All I need to say is that C-USA power UCF got steamrolled by Buffalo! Buffalo, for Christ sakes! Now go away!

UB has a good defense and some quality players on offense. UC graduated a lot of talent but still has recruited well over the past three seasons. Look for a low scoring game that Buffalo could win, but I like UConn at home in a tight fight.
I wish I could be more optimistic about this game, but UCONN just has too much speed at all positions.......regardless of the key players they lost. I Buffalo keeps it within 14-17 points they will be doing very good.
No way in hades does WMU score 21 points against Virginia.

Considering that UCF is currently on a 15-game losing streak dating back to 2003, I don't know if you have any room to talk.
Nick,

I think you do a great job with your picks.

Agreed BG wins only by outscoring the Badgers and by less margin... 45 - 41 BG will pick up where they left off last year; only a series of unfortunate events versus the Rockets keep BG out of the top 15.

"N’western 28 – Ohio 14"

Also agree but Ohio keeps it closer 24-21... enthusiasm is running high in Athens. I pick the Bobcats to finish second only behind a very very very good Falcon team. Any other year Ohio wins the MAC East.

"Michigan State 27 – Kent State 10"

Disagree… Sparty looks tough this year. MSU does all it can to keep it less than 50 points and The Flash lost too much to re-load.

"Toledo 42 – WIU 17"

We’ve got to be careful here as the Rockets consistently under-achieve early against teams we’re supposed to dominate.

Did you forget that Miami plays in the East too?

He apparently did, although he actually does have us losing to OU this year in his preview. I suppose we could have a major letdown after a home win over BG...but with a MAC title game apperance hanging in the balance, I don't think so. Too many seniors and too much pride to let something like that happen.
"Post of the year material?"

tisk... tisk... tisk

You're smarter than this... no?

You do have to admit that the sentence does sound Paul Maguire-esque.

It would be akin to saying, "To win the game, the [insert team name here] will have to stop the [insert opposing team name here] from scoring."

Ummmmmm, yeah. Isn't it always?
Its not impossible to think Ohio could surprise in the MAC EAST. The fact is that will be a tough road game for Miami. This would the final game of the year for Ohio and the Cats should be better in November than September with the changes made this offseason.
Ohio State 27 – Miami 17
Miami will push the ‘Suckeyes’ to the brink but a late TD for OSU will put the game away. The sad thing is that the Ohio State fans leaving the stadium will still be arrogant A-holes who believe the MAC plays division III football. Gee, have I ever been to a game in Columbus?

nick, you might be right due to the fact that they are playing another team from Ohio, but When we almost beat them last year except for that 54 yard field Goal by Nugent, their fans were anything but arrogant after the game.

In 2003, I sat in front of a very arrogant dick, who only shut up when Bowling Green got the ball back and was driving for the tying score.

When Josh Harris was picked, I really didn't want to talk to any Ohio State fans after that. So I didn't.
