Maryland's Nick Novak nails a 50 yarder with 9:10 left in the game, giving the Terps the lead 13-10. Novak kicks off, Dan Sheldon fielding the ball 3 yards deep in the end zone but bringing it out. It was ill-advised, he is tackled at the 17, and a holding call takes it back to the NIU 8 yard line, 1st and 10.

1st & 10, NIU 8 - Michael Turner off RG for 4 yards

2nd & 6, NIU 12 - PJ Fleck slotted right, goes in motion, runs a quick dig route back to the center of the field, catching the ball and diving for 5 yards

3rd and 1, NIU 17 - time out NIU. After TO, Turner runs hard for 2 yards, 1st down.

1st and 10, NIU 19 - NIU wants the middle screen to Turner, but Terps are not fooled sacking Josh Haldi at the NIU 7. Flag on Maryland - personal foul, late hit. Terps make a bad mistake, giving NIU a first down.

1st and 10, NIU 22 - Haldi looks for Perry in the flat, Perry drops a ball that likely would have only resulted in a short gain.

2nd and 10, NIU 22 - Haldi looks for out and up route by Powers down Terp sideline, DB sitting back and ball is thrown out of bounds. Dominique Foxworth yaps at Powers all the way back to the huddle, setting himself up to get beat in OT and look like an idiot.

3rd and 10, NIU 22 - Haldi in shotgun, Turner in backfield, Fleck slot left, Perry TE right, Terps look to blitz, Maryland NG jumps and makes contact, offsides Maryland.

3rd and 5, NIU 27 - Fleck again in right slot, goes in motion across formation, runs dig route, gets down for gain of 8 and Huskie first down.

1st and 10, NIU 35 - Perry TE left, dual flanker left, SE right, Powers motions across formation from inside left flanker, Haldi rolls right, stops, throws back left to Perry who has Free, Rogers and Ghilani in front - Free and Ghilani pick up CB and S, Rogers works thru them to get to other safety and Perry turns it on eventually getting knocked out of bounds for a gain of 24.

1st and 10, UM 41, 6:03 to play - wing left, TE right, wing in motion becomes lead blocker w/LG pulling into hole at RG, Turner puts his head down gaining 7.

2nd and 2, UM 33 - Haldi drops back and quickly gets pressure up LG - two Terps head towards Haldi, who looks to unload it in the right flat, but ball squirts out when his arm goes back. Ghilani falls on it, but they call it incomplete.

3rd and 2, UM 33 - With 8 men in the box, the Huskies play smash mouth and run it straight up the middle, whipping UM's front for a gain of 6.

1st and 10, UM 27 - Turner again up the middle, gain of 7 - Terp defenders are catching blockers and Turner.

2nd and 4, UM 21 - Again Turner straight up the middle, not touched until 3 yards downfield, but Leon Joe steps up and the two have a hell of a collision. Joe delivers it, but he ends up being the one pulling Turner down while on his butt.

3rd and 1, UM 18 - QB sneak, Haldi for 1.

1st and 10, UM 17 - Turner off tackle, tries to get outside but WR doesn't get the block giving him the corner - Turner stays in bounds and gains 5.

2nd and 5, UM 12 - Turner off LG, gain of 2.

3rd and 3, UM 10 - Haldi looks to throw on short rollout right, covered so Haldi looks to dive for first but gets stuck short of first down marker.

Timeout Huskies, 4th and 2, UM 9, 1:16 on the clock. Azar 26 yd FG dead center, ties the game at 13.

Drive - 18 plays, 84 yards, 7:58 TOP. End result - Huskies win in OT. And THAT'S a great Huskie drive. 04-rock
Nice recap. Either you have one hell of a memory, or you just watched the replay.

Volume 2, the TD drive to tie Ohio and send it into OT when Fleck made an amazing 4th down catch?

It's still summer, and I've been achin' for some Huskie football. I'm working my way thru the 2003 season, so we'll probably pull out one for Bama next. End of 1, Bama 6 NIU 2.
What about Rob Rugai diving the Huskies to score against Wisc and then scoring on the 2 point conversion but having not ruled as a score. Letter from the Big Ten on Tuesday to NIU saying the call was wrong.

Stacy Robison scoring against SW LA capping a game ending drive to tie.

Carl Aikens hauling down a Hail Mary to beat W Texas State on NIU's first ABC televised game.

Bob Carpenter or was it Griesman throwing 5 TD passes in the second half to beat ????????? after being down 14-0.

Sorry I only go back to 1967.
How about the drive to and from Alabama!!!

I hear ya. I've watched the Bama game twice in the past couple of weeks and I'm wearing out the 2003 highlights DVD.
This is all from memory, but I remember this drive led by Aaron Gilbert vs UNLV, that was particularly memorable. Gilbert gained most of the yards through QB sneaks, and two pass interference penalties.

Since that game my friends and I have this joke about a desinged play, by NIU, called "Throw-it-deep-and-try-to-draw-a-pass-interference-penalty".
