I would say yes. There is no way this team should be a top 25 team and teams like NIU and Toledo be in the 50's and 60's. NIU beat them last year with our beack up QB and running back and they were awful down the stretch @Toledo. Omar hasn't proven he can beat is main competiton in the MAC, and the have an AWFUL defense.

BG won its bowl game against Memphis, the best returning team from CUSA.

If you have enough offense, who cares about the defense. BYU was able to win a national championship that way.

I don't think that they are extremely overrated but I do think they are somewhat as a team. I think all of the Omar hype is legitimate but I don't think he's quite to Big Ben status yet, as the national media is expecting. He is really good and deserves his recognition, nonetheless. The only extent that I think they are overrated is as being the top MAC team. To save my UT homerisms, I'll say that Miami is the top MAC team and I expect them to keep BG out of the MACC because they have a proven, tough defense.

OTOH, if BG's defense was nearly as capable as its offense, I think the ratings would be accurate. Unfortunately for them, people are overlooking their defense.
Although some say defense wins championships, I think the hype around defense is overrated. As long as your defense can stop the big play, you don't have to pitch a shut out each game. I think our defense will be able to make key stops this year with a new coordinator and some new schemes.
No,until they prove otherwise.

can't we all get along! Isn't this what is known as trolling?
I don't think fox sports feels they are overated as they place three players on the top two hundred list:My Webpage
Until Ohio plays BGSU within 25 points I will say that BGSU is underated. BGSU was much better than Pitt. Ohio was close with Pitt in Pittsburgh. BGSU blew us out 42-16 in a nail bitter compared to the 70-21 whuppin' they gave us the previous game we played them. I think most Ohio fans will say that BGSU is a very solid team. Anytime the football team outscores the basketball team you got a good football team. We are at BG this year. Even with Solich, we got no chance in that one.

Miami had a better D than Toledo last year and that got them?????

Exactly!

So what in the world does the third game played last year have to do with this years meaningless pre-season rankings?

And shouldn't the Falcons have a beack up QB?
nope

You can have the best defense in the world, but if you can't move the football you aren't going to be able to come back in games.

Defense wins championships but never has a school without a least one good offensive skill player won a championship.

Ohio has a good defense, that is why we can hang against Pitt and Florida but the offense SUCKS to put it mildly.

Miami had a better D for most of the year and that got them a win over the MAC champs. Toledo's D came very close to catching up by the end of the season and that got them a win over Miami, and gave them the MAC championship.

The silly rationalizations in this thread to justify the weaknesses of the poster's favorite teams are comical. To win games a team needs a decent offense, whether it be a flashy spread offense, or a grind it out ball control ground game. You can't win games without scoring more points than your opponents.

OTOH, the old adage is 100% true, defense wins championships. The fewer points your opponent scores, the easier it is to outscore them every week.

This concludes Football 101. Feel free to return to arguing whose weakness makes them a stronger team.
Sorry but I cannot vote against the MAC here (and that is what a "yes" vote would be.

The cream of the crop from the MAC SHOULD be even ranked higher than 23 IMO and until TU, NIU, MIAMI or another of us takes them out on the field then they are, if nothing else, underrated.

Heres to hoping we are all 3-0 before we can truly start trash talking eachother.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Toledo beat them last year for the MAC West in the final regular season game, played at the Glass Bowl. In this particular rivalry, I don't really think we HAVE a "better" team until SOMEBODY can win it on the road. All the alternating home wins give us is a clear picture of home field advantage and bragging rights for a year.
Yes BG is overrated because their defense stinks.
