Are these usually posted on monday? I have to get to know my guys before they start putting a hurt on Michigan Saturday! 04-rock
Yeah, these come out the Monday before the game. I'll be interested to see if there are other suprises like the mention of English in the Aurora Beacon News. Its pretty impressive when English, a red-shirt Fr moves in front of Holman, a Senior. I think this is the most talent we've ever had at DE.
Did Holman start last year? I know he did ply a lot. If so, here is an example of a starter on Joe's team that lost his position to a more talented player without being injured. I remember a post from last week that stated that this never happened.
I believe English played (started?) in the Maryland game last year, but then got hurt. He's a very smart player and will be fun to watch. Great to see the depth we have on the defensive line.

English started until he got hurt....

EDIT:

I take that back. Moore and West were the DEs. So no this isn't an example.
Holman started at DT last year. Joe decided to move him over to end during spring practice. Here's what Joe had to say about Holman back in April.

Senior DE-DT All-Mid-Am candidate Holman can start at either spot and create match-up problems at both. The 6-foot-3, 261-pounder started nine games (eight times at DT and once at DE), led the local defensive front in tackles (34) and combined QB pressures-hurries (38), plus blocked a field goal in the Bowling Green State showdown in 2004. “Quince is unique. He has really matured in the last six-to-eight months. He’s a big kid with natural quickness and explosion,

Game notes and two deep are up on the NIU website.

Interesting:

Our backup CBs are both freshman. Who knows who is starting on offense apparently we are starting 13 03-razz

Phil brown/Allen/McCarthy all freshman backup LBs. DL lots of depth and good size in the backups.
PR backup is Britt Davis.

Brandon Davis appears to be a starter at the R...and he will be a "starter" to open the season. Our Flankers are both young kids, but Talented. No orlando moore on the two deeps, i hope we can redshirt him.
Man, we have a lot of young back-ups on the two deeps. Looks like a lot of true freshman will play this year. Which is not terrible given our strong recruiting classes lately.

I see Turner is the starting flanker. He looks like a real playmaker.

Finally, I'd like to say that I predicted this past spring that Powers would be our punt returner, but my buddy Cybes doubted that move.
