only down 24-13 now. Still very outside chance.
UCF hasn't looked bad this game. Lots of decent drives, but they just fall short when they get close to SC's endzone. An extra "oomph" on offense, and UCF would be leading now.

And UCF just recovered another fumble.
Yet another SC turnover, UCF right back in Biz.
UCF's Dline has looked very good, and they've been able to run the ball decently.
I think the topic of this thread should not be "UCF blows big opportunity?" and instead "UCF BLOWS!"
UCF had the ball within SC's 35-yard-line six times in the second half, and only came away with 10 points.

Got to give credit where credit is due. UCF matched S. Carolina out there. They just needed to punch it in a couple more times, and it's a Knights victory.

I'm not a big fan of UCF, but any non-BCS victory over an SEC team on their own turf would be a good thing.

While I hope that Marshall loses every game from now until the end of time, I bear UCF no ill will. Too bad they couldn't have pulled this out.
Motown,

UCF will get it going soon enough. Its the 8th biggest school in the country. They have the facilities. Their campus is beautiful. They got a coach who can lead. I see no reason why they can't take over in a few years the CUSA like L'ville did.

If it were not for the idiot Kruz I don't thnk many would have the dislike for them. They were way too south for a MAC school, to think they would stay MAC for a long time.
Thanks for all the positve comments. We appreciated our time in the MAC. Kruz was a good QB Coach and a decent OC but a lousy head coach. His mouth got him in trouble. O'Leary will turn this program around and we are going to build an on-campus stadium very soon. The future is so bright I have to wear shades.

Go Knights!!
Good luck in CUSA, VL. When I lived in Orlando, I met a lot of great people from UCF. 'Tis why I somewhat followed them before they entered the MAC, and will keep tabs on them now as well.
Still too much youth.

I think we'll beat USF.

And Marshall too. Boy, W&M was winning 24-23 in the 3rd Qtr over Marshall? My have they fallen in the last few years.
damn...we had some opportunities!! We sucked out of the gate on So. Carolina's first two drives but then outplayed them the rest of the game. I'm impressed mostly with our O-Line...definitely improved over last year and our true freshman RB Smith (#24) showed some potential. Our db's played too soft at the onset but looks like we mad nice adjustments. Moffett is pretty accurate but tends to put too much air under the ball at times. Our WR's are big and should have good years. Enough of my ramblin'...good luck to all MAC teams!! I really enjoyed our first taste of conference football!! Hope to see some nice MAC wins on Saturday! 04-rock
Mike,

Leary had a pretty strong recruiting class since he got there line wise. Kruz neglected that big time and he got caught in the MAC because of it. Leary has emphasized it. No doubt UCF has the ability to own CUSA w/in time. Its in a perfect situation.

UCF could win half their games. Could. UCF has tended to play up to the level of the competition.
Unfortunately, also down to the level of the competition. We'll see if this changes.

About UCF as a big school:

Minnesota a huge school
Michigan State a huge School
Limited football success as of late.

Miami Florida - A small School (wealthy)
USC - Not a huge school (wealthy)
OSU - Huge School that Cheats
UM - Good Size, and Wealthy Alum base

Enough about your huge school.

Being a huge school is funding one of the best athletic villages in the country.

Isn't Wm & Mary a Southern Conference school? Herd fans kept telling us how tough all those teams were. :snore:
Lakeland,

The point of being a huge shool is pretty important when you are competing against smaller schools, like the CUSA. Bringing up Pac 10, Big 10 schools is irrelevant to the point that they are constantly competing against likes.

UCF will probably not go 500 this year. Next year, maybe. But the comparisons w/Louisville are there.

Up and coming southern city. Big enrollment . Public university. Brought in a name coach to help turn it around ( Scnellenberger/Leary). Commitment to the program. CUSA .

To suggest that UCF's huge enrollment does not aid the program is factually incorrect w/the right coach. Its a great advantage as long as the coach is in place and the commitment is there. THere are great alumni advantages, economic ones and spirit ones.

I may be wrong but if I were calculating the CUSA team to become the next Louisville it would be them. They have everthing in place. May takev some time but I think they'll get it done. I like there chances alot better than South Florida, although South Florida is in the Big Least (w/a freakin' BCS berth. THat needs to be addressed)

The other thing, which is tragic, Southern Miss ( the class of CUSA, now) has got to be effected w/this Katrina tragedy.

BTW, UCF is not my team.
In all honesty I hope UCF and Marshall do well also. More UCF than Marhshall however b/c I expect more honesty out of the UCF program...

I don't care for Conference USA period.

So watching Central Florida and Houston and Tulsa on TV last night -- it was a bit like the thrill of taking a magnifying glass to an ant. Good stuff.

But I don't bear Central Florida any *special* ill will.

Any time Marshall wins a game, I am disappointed. I don't feel that way about Central Florida -- which, incidentally, seemed to do a very good job against the run last night.

If South Carolina is any good at all, Central Florida may get some wins in Conference USA this season... and that would be fine with me.
