You know, I rarely root for a BCS squad over a non-BCS squad, and I don't know the exact story behind this tape-exchange situation, but I hope MSU takes it to Hawaii Saturday. I just don't like the Hawaii program.

I've caught several games on the tube with UH, and they've always struck me as thugs. Fights with Cincy. Fights with MU. Fights with MSU.

Not to mention that MSU was completely robbed by the refs at the end of last year's bowl game with them (and spoiled my football pool). Then UH's coach mentions that MSU deserved more penalties.

Go Spartans.
The whole thing is just childish. Just exchange the damn tapes and get on with it. With technology thesedays, most of these games are on tv anyways. It might not be the best thing, but most schools like these have some of their games on tv. Can't someone just record them???
I was wondering something similar.

Say I was a die-hard Hawaii fan who happens to live in the Midwest and taped the MSU-KSU game.

Could I just send tapes directly to Hawaii myself? Or would I be violating something?
I thought everyone had enough sense to put tape exchange in their contract.

TV broadcasts aren't terribly helpful because you can't see what the secondary (and sometimes the linebackers are doing) and can't see much of what the o-line is doing nor can you see the routes the receivers are running.

Idaho not giving Nevada tape of Washington State is a suprise since they are both WAC members. I guess Idaho having to rely on WSU for a stadium caused that.

I believe that conference matchups "require" tape exchanges. Not OOC. But I could be mistaken.
Non-conference games don't require exchange unless its in the contract. Most coaches do it as professional courtesy regardless of whether it is required.

Conferences almost all require it. The Sun Belt even mandates the manner of exchange and format of the tape (I think next year it goes digitial and will be transmitted to the league office with one copy then transmitted to the next opponent and one to the supervisor of officials). I bet most other conferences are very specific as well.

You betcha. Remember the bruhaha between Eastern Michigan and Toledo over the special teams play that was left out of the tapes Eastern Michigan received?

Yep. And OOC matchups do not require it, and often coaches will go with conference loyalty to determine whether to swap tapes.
What we are going to see is a blowout of extraordinary proportions. MSU was clearly unhappy with that travesty out there last year, and this tape refusal shows just how much of a grudge they are holding. It may even be a Big 10 thing, as Northwestern blew a game out there the week before.

Anyone who stayed up and watched that MSU game knows what a joke it was, and the team it really hurt was Akron.

I can't believe I'm posting this....

I agree with the Bronco

Go Spartys!!! (I might even wear green and white at the EMU-La-Laf game in MSU's honor)

Stayed up.. thought we we going bowling.. until officials fixed the game in the second half.. No way MSU should have lost that game... MSU will pile on this year!...GO SPARTANS!!!
I agree Motown. Hawaii is a bunch of thugs. I've seen a few of their games and there are always some shady stuff going on. First time I saw it was when they played Houston and that brawl broke out. Their crazy tribal mascott is anoying too.
I agree that the Refs screwed MSU. Money talks Bull$#!t walks and I think there was too much money at stake for Akron to bring 200 fans to Hawaii to watch a bowl game. Though I was disappointed with the result, I like the way JD looks at it. Akron was in charge of it's own destiny, if they would have beaten Miami, it wouldn't have been an issue. We shouldn't rely on someone else to get us to a bowl game.
