There are a lot of QBs I would rather have than Phil.

Bruce Gradkowski
Omar Jacobs
Josh Betts

Shall I continue?

For all the supporters of Phil, he is still in the bottom half of the league

I'm not necessarily a Horvath supporter.(I don't support
athletes.)

I'll grant you that Jacobs and Gradkowski are miles ahead of
Phil. I'm not sure I'd trade him for the erratic Betts though.

Who else do you rate as a better QB in the MAC?
All I am saying is that the other MAC teams are not saying"if we only had Phil Horvath..." He is a servicable quarterback at best. I want a stud QB. Someone that says we have to game plan for the NIU QB.

If(and this is a big if) someone stops Wolfe, I don't think Horvath can put the Huskies on his shoulders and take over.

Joey Lynch(BSU)
Matt Bohnet(EMU)
Kent Smith(CMU)
Horvath

Top 6 by passing efficiency.

I agree!

I would rather have those guys over Haldi as well, maybe not Betts. Toledo and BG would rather have Wolfe then their RBs. Fact is we are a running team and the Toledo's and BG's of the world will always get better QBs. If I was a stud QB why would I want to goto a team that runs the ball all the time, doesn't make sense.
Would you trade our offensive line for any other in the MAC? I wouldn't.
In addition, Because we have had such good Runningbacks over the last half dozen years, NIU fans seem to accept average quarterbacks.
With some of the backups at runningback and recruits, I don't see a fall off in quality of our running game. Next year, we are going to have some young players on the O-line. The QB might have to do more than what they do now which is hand the ball of th Garrette Wolfe.

Because your opposing defense would be so worried about stopping the run, that they could not key on the QB. You would be free to do your thing. And if you succeed, you could be legendary, not just another prolific passer. The scouts would have to credit you with your team's succesful passing attack, and not just claim that you are a product of the system.

Maybe I should have been a recruiter.

No I would not. But that is the point. Because everyone else around Horvath is good, we do not complain about him. Last year, Charlie Frye made their team better. Phil does not make the Huskies better

I think there are a lot of good qbs in the MAC who happen to have good teams. We are a good team with an Average QB.

I'd think that if we had any other qb from the MAC leading this team we would be just as good if not better. So to be honest I'd rank phil 9th in the MAC.

Hes ahead of our friends from Buffalo
And if we count Temple (but they happen to have a solid QB so this could be a toss up).

But i don't think we need a top 6 in the MAC QB to win the MAC. We just need our current QB to stop throwing INTs. We can't keep putting that D on the field.
I want to have my cake(Best running game in the MAC) and eat it too(Best passing game in the MAC).

I don't want to settle for second best at any position.

The point is, what if we had a top 5 QB.

This offense would be impossible to stop.

The average QB and the superioir running has not got NIU to the MACC...

Other's have made it there with questionable D's but they all had excellent QB's.

Horavth will never be an "excellent QB", and I beleive we all agree on that(even what's his name). What we need is to develop a great QB to go along with the great RB's, Oline, receilvers, etc.

IMO this is the year that should happen...play Britt and Dan as often as you can, get them game time at QB.... not just mop up, but real game time...while NIU has to play for this year...they must also plan for the future...and the future is not Horvath(IMO).

I would not be at all surprised if Novak gives both a shot at the starting position next season.

I agree...

Our line next will be just "outstanding" feel they will fall to 3rd best in MAC at worst...

I would like to see a JUCO DT and WR pick up this off season..... WE can win the MAC next year. 2006 - 2007 wil be our years......If we get it in 05 great, but we need some D....
BobL,

You and I think alike. (I would be scared if I were you. Spent any time in prison). Next year, if our offensive line is young and in experienced, our run game might suffer(this is not to take anything away from Wolfe). If holes are not there, good luck Garrette.

From what Horvath has shown me, he is an OK QB. If Nicholson or Davis do not have a lot more talent, we need to recruit another stud QB this year because Phil is not a top flight caliber QB(IMO)

Follow up to that question - Does anyone think Josh Haldi made our team better? --- meaning in the same way the Frye, Jacobs, and Gradkowski made their teams better

Josh did make plays that I do not beleive Horvath can make...only time will tell....

I believe NIU would have won agasint Maryland and ISU last year if Haldi had played...so yes..he made the team better(though on second thought they also might have won if Wolfe had played more)

I agree phil cannot make a lot of plays, but this team has a very special RB and oline combo.

I'm happy we have a kinda not so great QB out there, gives wolfe a chance to show the world he can lead D1 in rushing.
You could have Mike Vick at the helm and still lose with the defense we put out there.

Phil is not the reason we are 0-2 and he will not be the reason we win the MAC West.

If Trent Dilfer can win a damn Super Bowl, Phil can win the MAC west.

Thank you. My sentiments exactly. Our defense is the problem, not our QB....
