In 2 or 3 years we are going to find it increasingly difficult to retain Judson as our head coach. I cannot believe how quickly people are jumping to conclusions about Judson. He has now assembled one of the better Huskie teams we have seen in a long time. I was looking through the 2005 preview file and found all these quotes about Judson from some big names, here is a sample:

"Coach Judson is always there for his players. He helped me get through some difficult times and he understands what it takes to be successful both on and off the floor" --- FRANK WILLIAMS NBA

"Basketball-wise, there is no person in the state of Illinois as well connected as he is. He is a tireless worker, a great communicator, and will be a tremendous ambassador for Northern Illinois University." --- BILL SELF KANSAS

"Coach Judson is everything you want in a head coach. He was like a father figure to us. He knows the game of basketball so well, but he always made a point to teach us about life first. He's a great teacher of the game too. He taught me so much, and much of what I learned from him, I still use today. He's also a fiery competitor and hates to lose. He works extremely hard and that rubs off on his players." BRIAN COOK NBA

They go on and on. We should appreciate what we have here at NIU in Judson, and enjoy the ride that 2005-06 season will be.

50-67 overall!!!

Yep this is a guy that we are going to miss. He actually has gotten worse over the years!

Jusdson only cared about himself and started to talk with everyone about leaving after the 17 game season. During this time he let the program go down the tube.

Other NIU coaches did much better coaching out of Chick Evans. How many more season do you want to give this guy? 03-puke

this hopefully will be the last season of the "Rob Judson Experiment."

and it seems pretty obvious to me that the basketball team will once again finish under .500 under Coach Jud.
Yeah - he's really "everything you want in a coach" - except for the winning part!!!

When were those quotes made - when he was hired???
We should fire him NOW. It will be better for recruiting to get a new coach in sooner, rather than later.

What proof is there that he was talking to other schools?

About the same amount of proof that gary Barnett was talking to other schools.

Actually, Judson made it very clear he wanted the Illinois job when Bill Self left. Only problem was, Illinois didn't want him!
Calling alum...
He also went after the Bradley job one year after being hired. Talk to any Bradley insider to verify. He has not brought in one top 300 recruit despite having a brand new facility. Just awful.
Judson might be a great guy who cares about his players. This is great in life but his job is to win college basketball games. On this point he has failed. He has also failed on recruiting. Maybe Judson should go into social work.

I will give him one benefit. With Ben Rand and a lot of players returning, this year could be an improvement but there are no studs in the pipeline. He got lucky that Rand left Iowa. Is this how we will recruit. Let's go to U of I and see who is not happy. We could probably do a better job than going after HS players.

Either you have an unhealthy fixation on Reverend Judson, or you attend the same church. More likely, you are playing the "stir the pot" role best assumed by Alum. Either way, your posts are hilarious. Please keep them up, particularly during December - March.

And if that isn't bad enough, outside of Ben Rand and Zach Pancratz, not one other single player on the current roster was actively recruited by another similar profile or better program. Not one. So essentially outside Rand and Pancratz, everybody else is akin to a walk-on. That is an unbelievably pathetic statement, especially when the guy is entering his 5th year at the helm.

In terms of Judson shopping for another job, fact is he has zero options anymore so I wouldn't get too worried about that. Next year he more than likely is back to being one of Lon Kruger's assistants at UNLV.
What concerns me is that going into this season we will be playing with only 10 scholorship players, I don't count McKenzie as a player. There is something very wrong. Losing the Leo kid to WMU probably is a backlash to losing Clair.

What REALLY worries me is that a lame duck Rob Judson is out there trying to fill open scholarship slots right now. As if the new coaching staff won't already have a monster task in front of it, the last thing it needs is several lousy Judson recruits with four years of eligibility.

I understand why NIU couldn't dismiss Judson after last season, but I just hope the powers to be realize that even more damage is being inflicted on the program with each passing day.

Good to have you back alum! 04-rock
As Alum was saying, it bothers me to know that we have something like 4(?) scholarships to hand out this year in what many expect to be Judson's final year as coach. The new coaching staff next season is going to be stuck with 1/3 of their team being guys Judson recruited as a lame duck coach for four years.

Yikes.

Will we find 4 suckers to accept the scholarships?

With my intermural/rec background in basketball, I guess I would take a scholarship to NIU. It would pay my tuition.

Yes, so lucky as every other team in the state grabs the best players.
I know Illiniois State has had a good basketball program thru out the years but why can't NIU get players like this. The MAC is on par with the Missouri Valley. Judson, Whiteside and Amato all have Chicago connections.

Just another black eye.
