While many here have probably been watching the OSU game, I've been watching the Minnesota - Purdue game today. Minnesota came out swinging early but started to let off and Purdue scored two touchdowns within a minute late in the game to come back with an eight point lead. Minnesota just marched down the field taking up a few minutes to score with about 1-1/2 minutes to go in the game. They obviously decide to go for two. They line Maroney and Russell in the backfield and go for an option. Brian Cupito ran out to the right with the option to pitch to Russell or Maroney. Instead of pitching it, he takes it into the endzone himself. Score, tied game with a minute and a half to go. Purdue still has a chance to go down and kick a field goal but Glen Mason's balls are the size of grapefruits right now! Go Gophers!!
Gophers come up with a big stop on Purdue's 40 with 50 seconds to go. Purdue will have to punt. The Gophers now have a chance to go down and kick a field goal. Minnesota could win this one straight up. Really exciting game!
Argh, they're playing for OT. :(
Damn it. Purdue just scored a touchdown in the first OT possession.
so where do you think minnesota learned that bubble screen play? 03-wink
Big stop on Purdue for 4th down. 4th and 2 to go for Purdue. Make the stop guys. One of the best parts of Minnesota is that this Gopher team is stacked with Ohio boys.

Woo hoo! Minnesota with the big stop!! Gophers WIN!!!!

I hate Minnesota - They ran it up on us. F-em.

I disagree. My buddy said the same thing as you. They didn't run it up on us any more than UT ran it up on Western Illinois. It wasn't their fault. It wasn't UT's fault for scoring so many points against WIU either. It's a year later and I can name all four running backs (at least their last names) that Minnesota played in that game. They played Marion Barber III, Lawrence Maroney, Russell, and Pinnix. Without looking up the stats, each running back gained nearly 100 yards or more against the Rockets. Pinnix or Russell may have only gained 70 or so but that is a lot from a third or fourth string running back. That game was ugly because of UT's poor defensive effort.
The Minnesota/Purdue game was a far better game than the Cowtown offering
After the way the gophers got hosed at home against purdue by the big 10/11 refs in 2001, I was glad to see that they finally broke the Tiller curse and won.

However, as Minnesota is not on the Rocket's future schedule and Purdue is, in the next year or so it may be time to change allegencies in this game-----as if who we pull for has any bearing whatever on the outcome, anyway.

As to RUTS last year, it appeared to me that in the first half Minnesota pulled out all the stops to score as many points as possible by whatever means necessary. But it seemed to me that they treated the second half as a scrimmage where they could practice a few different things and experiment a bit and the additional scores in the second half were more or less incidental to the exercise rather than the objective of it---if that makes any sense. If the was a silver lining to last year, maybe this game along with Kansas finally fully exposed the defense for the fraud that it had become over the prior 4 years and perhaps finally led to changes. Up until that time the offense always covered for the poor defense but the O definitely forgot to show up at Minnesota (after their first drive) and never got off the bus at Kansas, so the true defense was exposed at its worst.
What a great win. This is the first time Mason has beaten Purdue and Tiller. Tough games do not stop. Next week at Penn State, who is undefeated and will be ranked in the top 25 this week. I do not know when you play Frenso, but good luck, I predict a Rocket victory.

Go Rockets!!

Go Gophers!!
Congrats on the win Golden!
Hey Golden, I couldn't have been happier or more excited for you guys today. Congratulations! Beautiful state and good football team. Just curious, I was looking at your schedule today...why do you guys play in Ann Arbor again this year?
We play in Ann Arbor again this year, because in the big ten we have to skip playing two teams in a two year period. Unfortunately we skip playing Illinios and Northwestern this year and next. Which makes for a brutal, Big Ten schedule. For some reason when they do that, Michigan played in Minn two years in a row. Now we play them two years in a row.
