GMAC - UT v. Southern Miss

<a href='http://cbs.sportsline.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions' target='_blank'>Linky</a>
It's almost a mathematical certainty a Big Ten team will be available for the MCB.

Seven Big Ten teams should attain winning records, plus it doesn't seem likely a second team will make it into the big four BCS bowls.

CBS, however seems to be out on a limb in its prediction of Michigan in the MCB. Would Nashville, Orlando, and El Paso all pass on the "glamourous" Wolverines? If they do, Detroit will be doing cartwheels no matter Michigan's record.
will BG even make a bowl game?

still gotta get past Miami OH and Toledo
BG & Miami have got to get by Akron & Ohio U - will the Zips or Bobcats become new members of the MACC club?
I think we still have a favorable schedule to run the table, but that's only if we play like a totally different team starting next Saturday.
Unfortunately for Miami, they lost their best defensive player Terna Nande for the season possibly and still have to play at NIU before they play BG. So Miami could already have 2 MAC losses going into the BG game. Then if BG loses at Miaimi, they would still be ahead in the MAC East. But this is way premature. We have OU and Akron to worry about first.
I just can't see Michigan playing in the MCB.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Toledo in the GMAC this year, but we have to get by EMU and NIU among others like CMU.

BG has to get by Akron, Miami, and Ohio.

We have a long way to go and there seems to be a lot of parity in the MAC this year.

Right on the money...and the NIU fans have just learned this the hard way. I hope the UT fans jumping on the Falcons earlier this week don't experience the pain the Huskie fans are feeling right about now.

Be careful when you talk smack about another team, it may just come back to haunt you.

I agree. Michigan will never play in the MCB. They will decline a bowl before playing in Detroit against one of our teams... especially one of our best teams. The minimal payout just isn't worth the danger to their recruiting. I've heard the same said about Michigan State too.

But Michigan won't be passed over by the Alamo or Sun bowls anyways.

I realize this whole post is pure speculation but we also went through it last year with OSU. That being said, they wouldn't be allowed to decline, would they? the Big Ten is under contract with the MCB

I just don't Michigan or Ohio State would ever be allowed to slip that far.

Michigan State... I could see Michigan State playing in Detroit.

Though I don't see UM playing in the MCB, it isn't because of that reason. I think that Lloyd Carr has too much class to pull something like that. As others have said, they wouldn't be allowed to slip that far. BTW, I am by no means a UM fan, though their uniforms are very pleasant on the eyes. 03-wink

Exactly. UM and OSU are too desirable for the bowls farther up their list.

You are right, but when it comes to UT and Bowling Green expect the smack talk every chance the other gets. That's what a rivalry is about.

Last year BG fans ripped on UT after the first two games and then we got the last laugh in November when we won the game and then won the MACC Game the next week. Who knows what will happen this year.

It's always different when the public holds you up as our top representative.
A a guy w/10 Orange Bowl tickets every year, I felt bad for the people @ the Fiesta to have to watch that mess w/Big Least champ, Pitt. I guess the joke will be on us this year if it falls the predicted way and the OB gets the Big Least winner.

The Big Least has to be eliminated soon. Losing by 20 plus to an unranked and won't be this year should eliminate you from BCS consideration immediately.

I could see MSU there as well, since we have the George Perles connection. If not for that, I might think otherwise.
If Pitt wins the Big East, the Panthers should be sent to the MACC game and play the top mac team for the fiesta bowl bid. The loser gets the GMAC bowl and the second mac team gets the Motor city bowl. I think if there is just one unbeaten in the conference left, the one division winner should step aside ask Pitt if they got the guts to play our best team for the 10 million dollars or so that the Fiesta bowl pays. I would think that a play in game between the MAC and Big east champs would big a big tv draw. 10 million or 750,000 is huge difference and TV people would love this type of winner takes all game.
Bottom line the Big Least w/out Va Tech and Miami (Fla) is bogus. A crap conf. that is getting money because the BCS doesn't have the guts to say you suck now and don't deserve it.

Big Least the best basketball conf out there but one the lowest 5 in football. Garbage. Worst thing for us is we took the worst garbage (Temple) of the dump.
Looking at Big Ten schedules, the finish might look like:

OSU 8-0
Wis 7-1
UM 6-2
Iowa 5-3
Mich State 5-3
Purdue 4-4
Minn. 4-4
Penn State 3-5
NW 2-6
Illinois 1-7
Indiana 1-7

My guess would be Penn State with Minn and Northwestern as other MCB possibilities.

Penn State- Rocket rematch would be sweet.
