Good thing they won't be playing Temple this year. Now that would be the Chippy Bowl. I've watched Temple on Comcast Local the last 2 weeks against Toledo and WMU. From what I've seen, they are the least disciplined and sportmanlike team in the conference. Maybe CMU is the second least.

BTW, thanks for the photo of the "Directional Trophy". I just learned of its existence yesterday. Great idea. Maybe there should be an all sports counterpart. Sort of a Pontiac Cup for the Michigan MAC schools.

How will the trophy be decide if all teams go 1-1 against each other? That has happened in the past a good bit.

Do we go by PF an PA? Record against common opponents?

Great idea. Too bad it did not exist last year as could have claimed it!

Where's the UP on that trophy? They give it back to Minnesota? Does that make Toledo part of Michigan again??

The refs did allow a lot of extracurricular activity. Both teams could have been nailed with late hit personal fouls on a couple occasions. We had a receiver mugged a full yard out-of-bounds, for instance. Both QBs were complaining about late hits, I know, and holding in the trenches was being ignored most of the game. The refs were just swallowing their whistles, and I remember thinking there might be a fight soon. Thankfully, things never reached that point.

Don't get me wrong, I'm generally in favor of a conservative whistle, but not to the point of letting things get out-of-hand. I hope both coaches sent game film to the MAC office, with a strong admonition to protect players and police the game better.

We can have our rivalries, but that type of crap doesn't belong on the field anywhere.
