Im no Irish fan by any stretch, but im becoming a Charlie Weis fan.

My respect for him will go up if I learn that it was the mother who fed the story to the press and not the PR folks at Notre Dame.

If he did it purely to comfort a dying boy, then awesome. If he did it to show the public what a great guy he was and made sure the media knew, then well, that would be disgusting.

It is too bad that we even have to suspect the latter.
I don't know. Everything I've read about Weis indicates the guy just wants to coach football and thinks all the pr stuff is a pain in the a**. If you read his pressers, he definitely doesn't seem to like the limelight.
The story originated in the South Bend paper (Mishawaka is the next town east from South Bend). I highly doubt that this was planted by ND's sports information office... If the story showed up out of nowhere on ESPN or the New York Times, that might lend credence to your theory, but even the most diehard ND hater has to go a loooooong way down into the muck to float that this was planted for nefarious motives even if that were the case...

Sometimes a simple, heartwarming story is just that.

Say 10 "Hail Marys" for those impure thoughts.

Agree. Charlie Weis hasn't done anything so far to indicate he's a prima donna.

1. ND is loved and hated by the press; when the irish do something good the entire world loves it then questions it like u
2. u need to think about it, (e.i. George Gipp's dying wish, Win one for the Gipper) Any person's wishes when ill or dying intertwined with sports is the kind of thing the media feasts upon, so it will be known.
3. A local newspaper reported it, then the AP
