That you can recruit top notch talent to C-USA. You look at their last three teams and you will see that all of those seniors who went 11-1, 9-3 and 12-1 were recruited to play in C-USA. I belive Brian Brhom went to UofL before the Big East invite ever came.
Wasn't a big reason that Brohm chose Louisville was because a Big East invite was almost a lock?

I'd imagine that the biggest reason that he chose the Cards is because his entire family played there before him. If Louisville had been in the Sunbelt, he would still have gone there.

Brohm aside, it does show that 3 and 4 years ago you could recruit talent to play at a very high level while in CUSA, much the same that Tulane showed a decade or so ago and USM has been showing since the inception of the conference.

Getting access to BCS money is a different story however.

No I think they already had the invite b/c I recall he never had a redshirt year and he committed right after Louisville got the invite.
Brian Brohm reason was the Big East, if not for the invite he would be at Notre Dame or Tennessee. BUT you can still build a top notch team in C-USA. The vast majority of the 2004 and some of the 2005 team was full of C-USA recruits like Elvis Dumervil-(Denver Bronco and if I am not mistaken their sack leader), Jason Spitz-(Starter for Green Bay) and Kerry Rhodes-(Starter for the NY Jets).

Louisville was invited to the Big East in Nov 2003.

Brohm and others signed with Louisville either in Dec '03 or Feb '04 with the invite IN the bag to be in the Big East starting July 1, 2005.

PS. VERY good coaching also helps.

I think a better example is Boise.. coaches at the non bcs level have to look harder and find hidden gems .... then develop them..

I am actually watching your Cincinnati BearCats with more interest then Louisville. UL had some success prior to CUSA and the Big East so they had something to build on.
UC on the other hand has never finished ranked in the Top 25 in their history so if you guys build yourself into a Top 25 program it will show without a shadow of doubt what the BCS can do for a program.
UC has all the pieces in place to build a strong football program if your new coach is strong and if he sticks.

Louisville has made an incredible run the last couple years and I am glad to see some new blood in the Top 10. I also always love to see an ACC team go down even though out of all of them I probably like Wake the most because of their humility in a sea of ACC arrogance.

One of the key points--the Big East has excellent coaching from top to bottom. They arguably have the best HC's compared to any other league per capita.

I wasnt sure if UofL had gotten the invite when Brhom signed with them. Still the point is they recruited some really hot talent while they were still in C-USA im talking about talent that could hang 38 points on Miami while they were still good. I mean to be honest with you I really think that the 2004 Louisville team may of been just as good as the2006 Boise State team. And I think had they went to a BCS bowl 2004 they would've of probably of won.

As far as the best coaches in the Big East I do think that Mitch Rod, Greg S. and Bobby Petrino are great head coaches but outside of them three I think it drops off a little bit. I think Cincy hired a great head coach in Brian Kelly. But I think you have to give the SEC the nod as far as best coaches top to bottom

It's not about recruiting high profile players. It's about a coach's ability to evaluate talent and motivate them to win. Look no further than Boise State. Their last 2-3 recruiting classes were ranked in the 70's. Despite that, they could hang with OSU and Florida, and they would absolutely destroy the Louisville team that was outplayed by Wake Forrest last night.

It's not about money. It's not about how many tickets you can sell. It's not about 5-star recruits. It's all about coaching.

Everyone according to you would "destroy" us 01-wingedeagle .

Boise State is a damn good team and I would be honored to hook horns with them. We had a classic in 2004 when they were undefeated in the Liberty Bowl and it is great that our two teams have gone from the Liberty Bowl to BCS Bowl Champions. BTW we won our last meeting with Boise State 44-40 in that game when they were undefeated and we had 1 loss.

Louisville 23 1st Downs Wake Forest 18 1st Downs
Louisville Total Yards 457 Wake Forest Total Yards 387
Louisville Time of Possession 32:27 Wake Forest Time of Possession 27:36
Final Score Lousville 24 Wake Forest 13

Yeah you're right, Wake did outplay us last night. lmfao

BTW Louisville opponents in Bowl Games Record: Currently 5-2 with one pending. I am glad you enjoyed the Orange Bowl last night.

You will, your program has too much pride to stay down. I mean hell you do have a 18-8-1 record against us :uberbow: .

But if Bower ever leaves I have two words for ya, Paul Petrino.

You barely beat a team that was lucky to beat Syracuse, UCONN, UNC, NSCT, and a couple other really pathetic teams. You can put down your crack pipe now.

Sorry, but I didn't get to enjoy the Orange Bowl last night. Like most people, I wasn't very intrigued by the matchup. I saw the highlights on Sportscenter this morning. You were lucky to win. That's 2 wins this year where your opponent had to fumble the game away.

This article pretty much sums up the attitude felt by football fans across the nation...

Nothing sexy about this Orange Bowl matchup

Yune shut up. I really love you're passion for Southern Miss. But you remind me of scooter from the coaches call in show. Louisville had a great team this season and had Southern Miss played their schedule we'd of not finished 12-1. Dont cry okay I mean I know that truth hurts it even bothers me a little bit. But give Louisville their props and stop being lame.

Thanks MadEagle, like Bill Parcells would say you are what your record says you are.

BTW Yune, I would rather go with Jim Doonan take on the game instead of Gregg Doyle who really just wants to piss off fan bases across the nation.

LOUISVILLE vs. WAKE FOREST
ESPN'S TAKE

Both teams came into the game well prepared and executed like the champions they are. For the first three quarters, Wake Forest did a great job of staying in front of Louisville's receivers and preventing big plays. The Demon Deacons kicking game kept Louisville pinned back. However, Wake's inability to get its offense going in the first half hurt them. They didn't establish a running game until the second half. Louisville forced Wake Forest into turning the ball over three times in Cardinal territory and Wake missed a 47-yard field goal to end the first half.
Wake's recipe for success all season was to hang with a team until the fourth quarter and then put it away. Things looked promising when the score was tied at 10 to start the final period, but Louisville quickly took charge. Cardinals quarterback Brian Brohm deserves a lot of credit; he's been accurate and clutch all season. If Brohm returns for his senior season, Louisville should be preseason top five pick. I was also impressed with the play of Wake QB Riley Skinner, a redshirt freshman who started the season No. 3 on the depth chart. When the ground game wasn't working, he stepped up and found the open receiver.

I can't say enough about the job both of these coaches did. Whenever you win more than 10 games in a season, you've done a tremendous job. Close bowl games like this one show how competitive college football is across the board and make a strong case for a playoff system. -- Jim Donnan
