I “hear” that it’s going to magically disappear . . .
. . . in April . . .

Oh, wait . . .
Didn't say which April...

At my last job we had a dev one time who kept saying he'd be done with some code analysis on Friday.
He retired before that task was done.

Last year I had a project that dragged on for no lie, 2 years. Project had a developer but no PM. Just this one guy who would contact us every couple of weeks. We would ask him for any architecture or design docs and he would say he was working on it. After a year and half where his small group had burned through significant money but just far enough below the "big project" threshold, someone assigned a PM. I kept on asking the new PM jf he was still targeting last summer, July. Oh yeah, dates are set in stone he says. Meanwhile the Developer said he needed to go to India for two weeks to catch offshore developers up. He comes back and turns in his notice. Dude bought a farm. A literal farm in India. I guess he had his fill of crazy deadlines and methodology of the week. PM kept insisting dates had not changed. Two weeks later he dissappeared. Poof. No notice. LOL.
Now its like that project never happened.

Wow. I thought my horror story was somehow unique. I got hired to work an urgent IT project involving pushing out server monitoring software to an international universe of machines. The guy who hired me promised to get me three assistants to help get the project done by the ambitious deadline.
He hired one guy that helped me, then I found there were no network passwords to be divulged to me, and that I had to use machine pws (grievous violation of change process). I soldiered on with my one helper. When the genius who hired me quit and left the state, I wasn't wise enough to resign. Even when the helper was taken away for a different project, I was dumb enough to continue pursuing the goal.
Finally, in frustration, I told my new boss that this project was doomed. So he fired me.

One thing no one accounted for is that EVERYONE STAYS INSIDE WHEN ITS HOT.
Not to mention all of the yelling and close quarters during the outdoor festivities and bonfires and free giveaways over the summer surely didn't help matters.
