Cal hires Associate AD for NIL
Congratulations to Mr DiTolla, and good luck!

BERKELEY – Justin DiTolla, a longtime administrator with close to 15 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics, has been named the first Associate Athletics Director for Name, Image and Likeness at Cal.

DiTolla has spent the past 2½ years as Cal's Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services, where he has worked closely with Cal student-athletes in their NIL endeavors. In his new role, DiTolla will manage all aspects of NIL at Cal, including advising and consulting with student-athletes, meeting with recruits, working with campus partners and other constituents, and providing additional resources to student-athletes to stimulate and execute NIL activities.

The new role at Cal would make even more sense if schools were allowed to distribute NIL directly. Seems like Cal expects the Virginia Commonwealth NIL law to become universal.

I thought Labron James and some politicians signed a California State law that state colleges had to pay 50% of their income to their student athletes? Maybe that just got ignored or revoked.

Cal has a very high ceiling in both major sports. They've had some MEGA stars: Jason Kidd, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Aaron Rodgers, Marshawn Lynch, DeSean Jackson etc.

Considering they’re the flagship university in the most populous state in the union, Cal is a chronic underachiever.

The biggest underachiever.

By the way, my impression is that many schools have an NIL director just for football and another just for basketball. If Cal is only hiring one for the entire athletic department, they may be behind the curve.
