RE: Rank the Programs
I dont care where we are ranked in this, however when it comes to last NCAA tourney appearance, ill never forgive C-USA for rigging the basketball tournament for UAB the year their football program was shutdown. That Tech team was crazy good.

Hooten’s base salary is over 400k, he’s got the second largest budget in CUSA to work with at a school that, give or take, will lead the conference in attendance most of the time with a supportive NIL base. I’d say NMSU is a top three job.
Given NMSU's location, our head coach needs a large budget. The State of New Mexico is relatively sparce in D1 talent. Our staff needs to travel greater distances for recruiting unlike other CUSA schools which have D1 talent at their doorstep. Fortunately, NMSU is a beautiful campus, the Mesilla Valley has picturesque desert views, and the Aggies basketball program has a great tradition (thanks to Lou Henson) to lure in prospective recruits.

rank CUSA 4.0’s MBB coaching jobs from 1-11. The website Stadium used to run semi-annual offseason coaching surveys on certain leagues, where conference coaches anonymously ranked qualities of each rival program. Doesn’t seem like that happens anymore unfortunately.
This is just IMO ofc and based on my knowledge, want to see others.
1. WKU
2. Liberty
3. NMSU
4. UTEP
5. MTSU
6. Delaware
7. SHSU
8. LaTech
9. KSU
10. Jax State
11. FIU
I agree with most of these. I’d rank them in this order:
1. Liberty
2. WKU
3. NMSU
4. UTEP
5. La Tech
6. MTSU
7. SHSU
8. Delaware
9. Jax State
10. KSU
11. FIU
As good as WKU has been historically and is as a program, I think Liberty’s financial advantages puts them at the top. At the bottom, KSU has the worst D1 basketball record in the conference but a couple decent seasons recently including an ASUN championship elevates them slightly over FIU.
I would put KSU above Jax State

RE: Rank the Programs
I'd say NMSU, WKU and the minors make up the top 3 in some order. I don't think Liberty is top three. Money isn't everything. For comparison, NuM has twice NMSU's budget, pays their HC double what we do and has every other advantage. Yet we have a much richer history than they do.

I'd say most of this list is right, but I'd swap KSU & Jax St. I also wonder if 6-8 might need a little reconfiguring, but I digress, as I'm just going based on my own perception of programs with little to back them up.
If you went purely off of money & other perks of just being the coach, Liberty would have it hands down between what's got to be a sweet salary & a nice house on the mountain. However, the history of the program & history of fan support is enough to drop us to 2nd. It really just depends on what you're including in this ranking.

The bottom third of those coaching salaries are atrocious. Anything below 400,000 is a joke.
Generally--you get what you pay for. I'm just hoping some of those salary stats are out of date.
Time to step up (Yes--I realize there are exceptions from time to time-SH, this year, etc.).

I might be wrong, but I read somewhere that NMSU's Hooten's base salary is approximately $520K with 105K in incentive, making it possible for him to make up to $625K in a given year.

Yeah Las Cruces Sun (and other local media) reports indicate he’s on a 5 year contract with annual increases in increments of 25k over the first few seasons, his 2024 salary being $425,000. USA Today’s report indicates it’s $520,000. Unsure which is true, but in either case NMSU is fourth in head coach pay/base salary.

Not sure how accurate the salaries are. UTEP pays coach a basic salary of $400k plus $300k speaking/coaches show for a total of $700k. I’ll wager the other lower paid coaches have a similar structure.

Same for WKU. Coach Plona salary is $500k base, but he gets $150k bonus for winning CUSA regular season and an additional $150k bonus if he makes the NCAA tournament. $50K Bonus for winning CUSA coach of the year and $50k for having an APR score of 970 or higher. Plus the last two WKU coaches had it in their contracts that if they get the arena selling out, they make a percentage of the ticket sales for anything over $800k in gross ticket sales.

"$400k plus $300k speaking/coaches show for a total of $700k" is a guaranteed payout. What you are talking about at WKU are bonuses for achieving certain milestones. Not the same thing.

This is correct.
Jax State men's basketball hosted Mississippi State on Jan. 19, 2000.
The bad guys won, 73-61.
