Several references / stories on JMU today. He has gotten monster coverage this morning for the golf addicts watching the stream. Playing well too and kicking Tiger's butt.

RE: Masters
Half way through the round and we already have multiple mentions of James Madison. Shipley and Woods have been talking some back and forth as el Tigre isn’t locked in with no chance to win the tourney. Otherwise he might be giving the assassin cold shoulder.

Also a couple of brief stories shared on air
1 - when Shipley was asked about JMU’s run to March Madness he said he was more nervous before the Wisconsin game than he was on the first tee at the Masters.

2- additional follow up on the March Madness interest. The announcers mentioned Shipley getting ultimate bragging rights after JMU beat Wisconsin. Why? Because his caddy plays golf at Wisconsin.

You just can’t make this stuff up. Truth is more amazing than fiction.

I got a reciprocal “Go Dukes” out of Shipley during Wednesday’s practice round but had no idea he would be the low amateur in the tournament and no idea he would be paired with Eldrick Tiger Woods in the final round. He has to be on cloud 9 right now. 03-cloud9

This a great example of what NIL should have been. All the sponsorships on Neil’s apparel is something that couldn’t happen a few years ago. While you expect to have plenty of more opportunities, all the amateurs can now take advantage of the gained exposure from pro tournament appearances incase their pro career isn’t as dreamed.

Neal Shipley 73
Tiger Woods 77

JMU > Stanford

As expected.
This cannot be debated.

Another JMU mention when Shipley is recognized as the top amateur during the jacket ceremony.

And to close it out, Jim Nantz gives one final callout to James Madison in Butler Cabin as Shipley accepted the low amateur award prior to Scottie Scheffler getting presented with the Green Jacket.

After this school year, JMU’s athletic Q rating has to be at an all-time high and perhaps the highest it will ever be. The new AD has to love it. All the coaches have to love it on the recruiting trail.

I knew nothing about Shipley and happened to be watching the end of the masters so that JMU mention by Nantz during the jacket ceremony kind of blew my mind. Awesome stuff.

After this epic weekend at the masters, i think the JMU golf team is about to reach new heights ... if your a high school golfer, you were locked into Shipley and the masters, that was about as great a recruiting tool as you will see.

I don't recall hearing about us having a great golfer when Shipley was at JMU.

I think he was a good player. His breakout was last summer finishing runner up in US Am which is why he was at the Masters in first place.

Most of current men's JMU team are from Europe. Met a number of the guys tailgating last year and the ones we met were from Iceland and France.

If you listen to one of his Masters interviews, he mentions his low point so far in his career as missing the travel squad for the first tournament of the year at JMU (think he said sophomore year). Clearly he has recently improved greatly.

Does anybody have links to any of the Shipley interviews? I couldn't stick around watching the broadcast yesterday in hopes of hearing him so if anybody has anything it would be much appreciated.

It sounds like a lot people really liked Shipley both at Augusta and on social media. I think his size and long hair made him stick out quite a bit. I remember at one point he and Tiger were chatting going up to the green (on 11 I think) and he absolutely dwarfed him...Tiger isn't considered to be a small dude either.

He did an interview with golf.com early last week at Waffle House. Aparently someone knew him well enough to ask for that and Neal thought it was an awesome idea. He said he had a "body by waffle house" in the interview.

I think people like him because he has a muni course personality and has developed an elite club game.
