RE: Spring Practices
Thanks Colin. You beat me to it.
I am surprised that only one high school player is an early enrolee. And one of our prized incoming transfer portal guys: Popeye Williams is not listed. Can anyone find out what his status is?
I am impressed that we have not lost more guys since the 12/23/23 listing. But we have lost a few:
Anthony Enechukwu S R-Jr
Landyn Moore (Skyy's brother) WR Fr
Logan Flesher P Gr
Tag Bonnema (brother of Boone) DE R-So
Patrick Grange DE R-Jr

RE: Spring Practices
I wonder if JD Davis will be the backup to Wolff from the get go? How many non-walk on QBs are even on the roster? Gotta address that situation.

RE: Spring Practices
Looks like they may not be done updating the roster, which I guess I should've expected. It's always updated at a snail's pace and in piecemeal fashion.
RB Keshawn King is back on the roster.

Looks like Popeye Williams is listed on the updated roster now…just listed without a number. Can Dashon Bussell seriously be back for another year? Must be an error.

Dude is made of glass, he will probably get hurt again.
I am not saying this to be rude, but maybe he should just call his football career quits. There are times when its just appropriate to walk away and not risk further injury the rest of your life.

RE: Spring Practices
A further review of the Bronco roster still excludes Tag Bonnema.
We should be set nicely at RB, OL, DL, and LB. WR and CB might be OK with additions.
QB and S are very light and we should be trying to add some experience before Fall. King, VanderVest, and Mack are surprise re-additions. If Wolff stays healthy and the new coaches do a really good job, we have a chance to be bowl eligible.

Completely agree on the depth at QB. Gotta add a solid backup unless we plan on going with a true freshmen backup at QB. Didn’t we try that before in 2017 with Jon Wassink and Reece Goddard? Didn’t work out so well. Kinda rare these days that a starting QB (especially one that’s not particularly mobile) can make it through a full season without missing a game or two. It does sounds as if they’re high on the freshmen QB from Georgia but gotta add some bodies other than walk-ons. Thinking back, didn’t NIU go through like 5 QBs in one year a few years ago (granted…there offense does typically run the QB a fair amount)?

The last two games Wolff was awful. Our old pal Steve Morrison figured him out....We have no vertical passing game or speed with WR. The schedule is easily. I say 4-5 wins. Keep building, keep recruiting Florida for speed.
Don't loss Buckley. Pay him whatever he wants.

RE: Spring Practices
Those last two games felt like an entire team implosion, strange as we were coming off a euphoric high after beating our two in-state rivals.
Maybe other coaches 'figured us out' after 10 games, or assistants were distracted with job interviewing, or more was going on behind the Lou-Taylor dustup, or a combo thereof... I dunno. Or more likely, it's nothing more than "stuff happens."

RE: Spring Practices
I'm really curious what they'll do about the QB situation. You've obviously got a very experienced senior QB in Wolff, who is more than capable of winning games. Behind him are two walk-ons (Konecny, Moyers) and two true freshman scholarship QBs (Davis, Reynolds). Do they just roll with the freshmen? I suspect Davis might be QB2 this season.
The rest of the roster shapes up pretty nicely, as ru4wmu said. Lots of young talent at WR and in the secondary. DL could be very good and Denham is a great coach. RB room has tons of potential. LB rotation is solid. OL should be fine. I'm a little worried about depth in the secondary. Attrition has been a problem there for years. Bussell is injury prone and wasn't very good last season when he was playing. Hallock and Wofford were hit and miss all season, Kone came on strong late, we'll see what the transfers Raybuck and Paul can do. I know it's still just spring ball, but there are only 10 DBs on the roster, and 2 are walk-ons. Could we see some of the highly recruited incoming freshmen get playing time?
