They look tentative and tight. Clemson looks loose and confident. Credit some to Clemson but Baylor picked a bad time to shoot poorly.
Baylor regularly looked herky jerky this year. They have a few guys with not great handles. They performed as I expected.
The vast mid pack of the B12 doing its thing.

A good free throw shooting team last that game at the foul line. 3 missed front ends and their 80% free throw shooting frosh bricks 2 with a chance to tie it with 36 seconds left

RE: NCAA tournament thread
That Baylor game reminded me of our game in '96 against Mississippi State.
On paper Baylor was probably the better team but just came out and got bombed by a team playing out their a$$.
Got back close but could never get over that hump. Frustrating to go out that way.

Very true but they didn't help themselves going 6/24 from treyland. Many possessions they were flustered and settled for a trey. Clemson played and coached better in this game anyway.

RE: NCAA tournament thread
i don't know where i heard it but there was a podcast commenter who indicated that teams 1-8 are pretty easy to seed and tend to be clearly a cut above. Same with the bottom seeds (14-16). Everything in between is a crap shoot and are probably closer in caliber then they are far. All things considered, i would have put money on Baylor before tip, but it's not that surprising that Baylor dropped.

I thought most of the 3s were great looks and when they weren't talking 3s they got to the rim or got fouled. Just a bad shooting night. Sometimes that's what basketball comes down to, percentages on open jump shots

I didn't watch every possession but many trey attempts I saw were near the end of the shot clock after trying to find an open man inside or passing it around the perimeter. I can't remember if it was Dennis but a couple times Clemson was guarding the perimeter and the Baylor guy still attempted a shot with dudes covering him. These were not called plays when a guy is coming off a cut, screen or running free. Heck, they were still trying to shoot treys while in the double bonus. Again, Clemson deserves some credit for solid dee and shot better overall but Baylor contributed to the problem as well from my eyes.

Thank goodness we have a game like Grand Canyon still left in the tank. This is fun with that crowd.

Bryce Drew was one of the guys I was interested in when mick left. We would have been buying low but dude could recruit and I thought a job that isn't vandy would bring out better. He's doing great and Grand Canyon ruck l which seems like it has an incredible fanbase.

Definitely a great family coaching tree/acumen. He did great at Valpo and then, like most coaches, hit a wall at Vandy. I'm glad he is reviving his career at Grand Canyon.

i stepped away from the game but if they actually called Houston the way they should be called, that would be their reality most games.

RE: NCAA tournament thread
Houston nearly blew that game. That said, TXAM got nearly 50 FTs to Houston's 30. Houston only had about 24 but TXAM had to foul in the closing possessions. I don't like to fuss about officiating but it was egregious in favor of TXAM from what I saw. Thankful the Coogs won because if not, B12 would've been a Big Dud with only one team in the round of 16.
Assuming SDSU beats Yale, Final conference teams in the of Round 16 [total multi-bids]...
4 ACC [Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, NCSU] 5
3 BE [Creighton, Marquette, UConn] 3
2 B1G [Illinois, Purdue] 6
2 B12 [Houston, Iowa St] 8
2 SEC [Alabama, Tennessee] 8
1 P12 [Arizona] 4
1 MWC [SDSU] 6
1 WCC [Gonzaga] 2
For this round, kudos goes to both the ACC with the most teams in and the BE remains unbeaten.

Basically the 13 of the best 15 teams in the country.... two top 16-25 type teams and 1 sleeper. Should be an awesome sweet 16. Of the teams I thought were in that till 15 group only Baylor and Auburn didn't make it. A rare year with few big upsets of top teams

Conversely, there was a lot of talk here that the Big East was overrated. They are 6-0 with all 3 teams in the Sweet 16.

To be fair, those are also 1,2 and 3 seeds. So to be expected. The Big 12’s 2 teams are 1 and 2 seeds. Baylor a 3 and KU (a way over seeded) 4 would be the underperformers.

I don't think anyone thought those 3 teams were overrated.
They were 3 of the best 10-15 teams in the country all season (with uconn being the best team in the country).
Now there is s narrative that their success should be applied to the rest of the Big east. That's silly to me

Correct. Too much is made of "best conferences" by the talking heads. Some thought the SEC was better than, or as good as, the Big 12 this season but its teams were mostly wiped out early too.
And the so called "mid-majors" aren't under the media microscope all season the way the high majors are and then people are shocked when they score an "upset" in March. I was even a little taken aback watching Indiana State dismantle Minnesota and left wondering, "How could ISU have these great shooters and such team discipline on offense?". And then how could that team be left out of the NCAA in favor of teams that looked pathetic in losing.
It's what makes it compelling TV, hence CBS is willing to fork over truckloads of cash for the broadcast rights.

Top of the BE was really good. The middle of that conference was meh. Committee got it right.
I'm still perfect in my bracket for BE and B12 teams. Neither conference has performed any differently than I expected. I didn't think there was a chance anyone but Houston and Iowa State would make it out of the opening weekend. I just wasn't that blown away by the mid pack of the conference like many were.

Clemson played lights out against Zona. They played a complete, clean game. Potential ACC matchup of Clemson vs UNC for the Final Four.
