We have often disagreed but I 100% agree with you here but they will not do this as evidenced by the fact they have recently cut the summer league teams in the minors.
Yeah...the MLB is having some fairly significant cash issues as a league (some of the teams are still doing very well). Their media contracts are getting lapped by the NFL and NBA and even the NHL seems to be doing better now. Unfortunately, I think the MLB, and baseball in particular, is of dwindling interest despite the changes to make the games more "watchable".
As for UT's baseball program...I've made my stance known for years. If they have to spend a cent to build new facilities on main campus for those programs, they should be dropped, as that would be an incredibly poor investment with absolutely no return.
Baseball would need to be replaced by another sport to maintain min no. of programs required by NCAA(?) for DI(?) and Title IX(?) status. Not sure how it works but I believe we are at or near minimum #. Please comment fellow Rockets. I don't believe we can just drop it. I think we are in a position where we have to make the programs we have work.
Mens soccer or lacrosse, with woman’s lacrosse or curling …
Nice soccer facilities are in place with the GB maybe used for lacrosse …
Or a long shot, is to bring back wrestling !!
My vote is wrestling. Seems like least expensive to ramp-up via facilities, equipment, etc. Never understood the need to drop[ a successful sports program.

Yep...leverage existing facilities on main campus with programs that require less expensive travel and have smaller required scholarship numbers. At the moment, dropping both would put us below the mandatory number to remain FBS, so adding in a men's/women's wrestling team or a men's soccer team and women's lacrosse team (using the field behind Fetterman) would suffice and likely would reduce expenses while not really affecting revenue at all.

Softball took 2 from BSU today. They are 6-2 in conference, and currently in 2nd place.

Baseball took 2 from NIU today to go 8-3, which I think is also good for 2nd place.

I see they lost a close one 7-6 to UM @ UM in 12 innings. Play UM at 5/3 April 16th.
Now 13-13 and 8-4.
Exciting season for baseball team. Really fun games to watch. No shortage of balls in play. Great baseball to watch. A very competitive UT team.

I would have liked to see UT get in on the ground floor of women's college wrestling. Still could. Not many universities have gone that route - there are only 3 Division I programs with women's wrestling. 2 are small programs, and Iowa is still in the beginning stages. They will compete in the national tourney for the first time in 2024/25 (next year). Most programs are at the DII and III levels along with NAIA schools. Then get rid of another program that is not doing well and costs more to run. I believe this year was the first year of OHSAA sanctioning the state tournement for women (1 division for all schools) and it was held at the same time as the boys tournament in Columbus at the Schott.

Recently heard a rumor (and that is all it is) that when BO-Wolfe Hall are torn down that the footprint space is being considered for baseball/software complex. Have not that seen mentioned in any of the press releases or information regarding the recent master plan updates and possible investments of $400m for new construction on main campus

That's a long ways off, if it ever happens. The baseball field used to be pretty close to the BO/WH footprint.

Just find a way to properly orient both fields with relation to the sun. The previous proposal was poor for softball.
Seems Rocket Hall would make more sense. Already flat. About the right size
I still like my Fetterman Beige monster idea for a baseball field behind the computer center that is probably obsolete anyway

I could see the University selling that property off for development at this point to try to help with their cash reserves.

As far as playing downtown, I was shot down by many posters on this site when I suggested many moons ago, that UT play a game at the Huntington center against a major D1 school. It was said, that we should stay on campus for all home basketball all games. Now the baseball team is playing downtown, go figure ?

Of course the basketball facility is better on campus, baseball stadium is better downtown. Now if somebody wanted to sponsor a Holiday Basketball⁵ Tournament, Men or Women's, that might be a different story.
