Rice plays tonight. But one upset is in the books already.

ECU (the 9 seed although they were one of five teams tied for sixth along with Rice) just knocked off the 1 seed Tulsa, 75-71. Tulsa had an all-conference player go 3-21 from the field (which included a 3 pointer at the buzzer).

ECU won this tournament a year ago and was the preseason number two team so it’s not a massive upset really.

UTSA hangs on to beat USF by 2 in the second quarterfinal. They will play ECU in one semifinal.

Rice leads 18-15 at the end of the 1st. Another fast pace game. Refs letting them play. North Texas keeping Sussy in check.

North Texas takes the lead. Fisher and Jackson need help.

25-24 after Ennis banks a 3. Halftime.
Hopefully that gives Ennis some confidence. She looked like she said "finally" after the shot and the team was fired up for her.

Otherwise a sloppy quarter for both teams.

Much of that comeback by North Texas was with Sussy and Jackson on the bench. Tied at 40.

This is not to absolve Edmonds of some questionable coaching this year. But right now you could argue that Ennis, Owens-Barnett, and Gooden are all borderline unplayable. Pretty tough to win games when you have maybe one or two guards who you can actually rely on.

Still, 40-40 and all to play for.

Sussy checks in and immediately scores and then gets a defensive stop on the other end.

Shot clocks working but apparently you can see the score on some other clocks around the arena. Announcers will announce the score after each made basketball.

53-51 Rice at 4:26. Feels like we've missed a few opportunities to stretch the lead to 6+. Might come back to bite us.

What an absurd decision by Fisher there. With the ball, up 3, under 2 minutes, and you drive early in the shot clock into no man's land?

I guess I should point out Rice only has 10 fouls so obviously the refs are letting both teams play.

1 point lead, 1 minute to go. But UNT with the ball after three Rice turnovers in the last 75 seconds.

Rice can't keep a decent lead. Turnovers and letting UNT stay in it. Then UNT takes the lead 58-59.

Jackson with a layup to take the lead. 60-59. 40 secs left.

Rice gets a steal on the inbound pass. Jackson is fouled with 32 secs left. UNT with fouls to give.
