I would like to expand that to football as well and cannot forget those past times of ACU and "Arlington State" battling on the turf. Glad to see UTA and Tarleton moving up the ladder in basketball, that is for sure. We need to join you guys. BTW, UTA and ACU are battling right now in baseball. UTA won yesterday 12-11 in cold weather, and today ACU won 8-7 in even worse, light rain cold weather. I wish we all had a vote for UTA football.
Thanks, RCI. I wish you all had that vote, too. BTW, our original Southland Conference members would make a heck of a football conference today.

Agreed. And a much better travel schedule as well. As mentioned, I cannot forget the great rivalry in the 1960's when we all played basketball and I was on the first year team. Back then the rule was freshmen could not play varsity for some reason. A terrible knee operation ended play beyond that first year.

Ugly ending to the Championship Game.

Both teams played hard but it wasn’t the greatest game.

Congrats to GCU!!!!!!

Didn't love how choppy the last 2 mins got with official reviews on everything. The windmill with 2 seconds also wasn't necessary, but UTA players gotta be better than running into & firing the ball at buddy.

5 on 8 when you play GCU. The 'lopes set a WAC tourney single game record for free throws (37) and attempts (50).

Regardless of FBS, this basketball season has shown if you aren't the favored child, this conference will screw you.

I'd rather not have comeback against Tarleton than watch this miserable excuse for a referee crew.

I don't know how we manage to turn the ball over so much. The fact that we didn't lose by 40 is amazing. I am a little embarrassed by how our players acted at the end.

RE: WAC VEGAS!
No excuse, but tempers flared. There were several times they threw their hands up wondering what they did and the refs actually whistled in UTa’s favor. Tyon Grant Foster should have fouled out halfway through the second half, but was able to garner 7 fouls. When you get a foul added to your tally because the other guy tripped on his own feet, it adds up.

The dunk was showboating and they had enough. Do that in an inner city school and the outcome is much worse than a body check and a thrown ball. It was a major sign of disrespect. They do that in baseball and you take a fastball to the back.

I was embarrassed for UTA at the end. The retaliation and poor sportsmanship with 2 seconds left did not enhance UTA's chances of getting a post-season invitation.

Also, I'm hoping the next WAC tournament will not be in Las Vegas. It amounted to a home game for the Lopes, with a tremendous crowd advantage. Perhaps it would be more equitable to have East and West WAC divisions host the tournament on alternating years.

Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, or Frost Bank Center in San Antonio would be good venues to consider when it's the East's turn. I'm just saying....

Two games in a row UTA had a player ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct.

This 100%. Put it where actually no one has an advantage.

Phil did the same thing against Seattle. As coach said, Karma is a thing. He’s a very emotional player and that comes with good and bad.

I’ve never seen Vining react that way. I feel this way, I’m sure they do too, but our season was taken away because of poor officiating. That’s a tough pill to swallow.

But look at it from this point of view. If that happened in the NBA, neutral observers would have said the refs lost control of that game.

As for Gaston Chapmans ejection, Tarleton put in a good performance. The replay showed at best him walking into it. The official was right there and didn’t see anything. No man misses that. I’ve been racked many times. I didn’t walk like a pulled a hamstring. In fact, I’ve never seen a man get racked and walk like that. Short way of saying, give that man an Oscar.

Ok the other hand, don’t we want fans to attend games?

Those who are willing to buy tickets to Vegas will be willing to buy tickets to other venues. The GCU students didn't pay for the tickets or the travel 100%.

The WAC officials have been outrageously horrific all season. I am sorry for both the outcome of the UTA/GCU game and the final minutes.

RE: WAC VEGAS!
Man, UTA sure pulled some low rent sh!t in this tourney. First the ballsy move on Jakorie Smith leading to ejection, then the classless celebration in front of our bench. One of UTAs coaches even tried to square off with Joe Jones (bad idea). Then we see this hissy fit temper tantrum last night on national TV because somebody dunked on a breakaway with a minute left to play. Disgraceful, to say the least, and for sure a black eye on the WAC. Earlier I spoke about Tarleton and UTA being programs on two different trajectories, and trust me when I tell you the complete lack of discipline shown by UTA would NEVER happen at Tarleton. Not under BCG’s watch, and definitely not under Lonn Reisman. In my mind, the real shame was seeing UTAs coach kind of just laugh it off and try to hug it out with the opposing teams. At Tarleton, those players would be benched and dismissed from the team, effective immediately, regardless of their status. ACU and SFA have traditionally run similar (disciplined) programs.

RE: WAC VEGAS!
It’s dirt cheap to travel to Vegas. The UTA fans could have gone very easily. It’s also spring break right now so family obligations are less of a burden. I don’t think you can fault GCU for that final dunk, the game was very close 45 seconds prior and UTA had not stopped trying to get back in it.

The officiating was in UTA’s favor that final 10 minutes. Multiple calls overturned and given to blue. My wife graduated from UTA and I stayed up late to cheer the Mavs on. GCU was the better team. They have a great fan base and that should be encouraged, not stifled. The WAC looked legit on national TV last night. Why would you want to stick the tourney in a boring destination that nobody is willing to travel to? Lots of sour grapes.

The UTA coach handled himself with class in my opinion and calmed things down.
