Next WVU BB coach?
According to our source close to the situation, Mark Byington, the head coach of James Madison Dukes, is the heavy favorite at this time to lead West Virginia next season. In fact, we’re told Byington and West Virginia Unversity have a “handshake deal” and he is reportedly in the choice following the season. According to our source, “a sitting Division One head coach told a prominent Virginia AAU head coach that Byington had the handshake deal.”

I am hoping they follow the historic pattern:

UC HC Gale Catlett becomes WVU HC (at UC 6 years, NIT, 3 NCAA 126-44, 74%)
UC former HC Bob Huggins becomes WVU HC (16 years, 2 NIT, 14 NCAA inc. FF, E8, S16 with 399-127, 76%)
UC coach Wes Miller becomes WVU HC, in my dreams. (3 years, likely 2 NIT, 59-41, 59%)

Sometimes it comes down to who the money guys will give to for NIL. Beilein was very popular coach at wvu. Not saying it’s going to happen just that the rumor is out there.

I think he is a good guy and a good coach, but he is 71 that was the only reason I posted that.....of course Larry Brown thought he was in his prime at 71 COGS02-13-banana

but if he could step in and quickly get things going again for WVU and then allow them to have a more smooth transition it would be a good move

the massive drop off after Huggy shows what a really good coach means to a program

The first two kinda had a foot up their ass, when they left uc. hopefully, wes doesn't get in a wringer. i like huggs, he just had his issues.

Whoever the new coach is will be in a tough spot. The donors stepped for Huggins with NIL so he could have one more shot at a natty. He gets arrested in Pittsburgh and the new staff 1) can’t put the pieces together on the roster 2) gets completely outmaneuvered on in game strategy.

Lots of money guys feel burned. Bridges need to be rebuilt and and sell those guys that the new coach will actually know what he’s doing. Not ideal.

Andy Kennedy? Doing a good job at his alma mater. But Bowtie Gordon Gee will see him as part of the Huggins tree.

well WVU seems to get it done and part of being a big time program is stepping up to FIRE someone and support the new guy unconditionally and WVU seems to be able to do that

too many fans of programs think that you get mad and hold back your money and expect that somehow a coach will get fired, a great new one will be hired, and facilities and other support will be there and then if things are good then you start giving money again <<<--- that is how you watch your programs fall apart

WVU seems to be able to get the support when needed I hope they do for a new coach for BB

No I haven’t heard anything about Kennedy this time.
