Win 4 games. It's a simple as that. The next one really doesn't matter because it's all about the 3 in Cleveland, but you might as well get the ball (pun intended) rolling.

Maybe it's just me, or maybe Miami really sucks, but this looked like an entirely different team than the last two games. Energy, moving their feet, communication, physical, attitude. Plus they got some starters legs rested and played the bench. Thomas and Marco looked good. Great game by Andre - he's becoming a player - and we will need him.

They confuse me though. Keep it going.

RE: Men's Hoops at Miami
From what I gathered tonight, this is the Seedings as of right now:

Top 4 Seeds are locked in with Toledo, Akron, Ohio U and CMU. If Toledo beats Kent Friday, they are the #1 Seed regardless of whether Akron wins or loses at WMU. Ohio and CMU are locked in to the 3rd and 4th Seeds regardless of their games Friday night.

BG is currently the 5th Seed and Miami the 6th Seed at 9-8. If they both win at home against Ball St and Ohio U respectively Friday night, BG gets the 5th Seed if Toledo is the 1 Seed and Miami gets the 5th Seed if Akron is the 1 Seed because of their respective records against these common opponents.

My understanding is that Kent State at 8-9 is locked into either the 7th or 8th Seed regardless of whether they win or lose at Toledo Friday night.

That leaves WMU and Ball St fighting for the final spot with WMU getting in either with a win over Akron at home Friday night or a Ball St loss at BG.

While I would love to see Akron lose at WMU and give Toledo the outright regular title, I am looking ahead to the Tournament where a WMU win and a Kent St loss moves Kent to a 8th Seed and a rematch with Toledo in the Quarter Finals next Thursday in Cleveland. If you remember 3 years ago, we beat Ball St at home the last regular season game and then played them right away again in the Quarter Finals and won in overtime. The next day a tired Toledo team got drilled by a well rested Ohio U team in the Semi Finals. I would much rather face an 8 seeded WMU team that we handled very easily early this season and is still attempting to build their Program under their second year coach. Playing Kent St in Cleveland has never ended well!

The men overachieved this season and Kowalcyk deserves a lot of credit. I’m not expecting winning it all in Cleveland but at least win Thursday night. Been a good season with a young squad.

The key for next season is recruit a big who can start, maybe another big who can give us 3 legit post options and another point guard. I don’t expect Thomas, Wright or Malectic to return

RE: Men's Hoops at Miami
what a game. I had a sinking feeling about this one. there have been really good TK Rocket teams that have played flat in late season road games or a 1/8 mac tourney quarterfinal. this team tonight was the best team in the league. we saw the potential of this team; intensity and aggressiveness on offense, defense and the boards. Miami came in as a winning team playing the best ball of the year. we dominated them despite the refs allowing them to grab, push and hold our guys the whole night. only bummer was ford and brcic being dinged up and unable to get big minutes. Lewis had 2 nice dunks however. and both thomas and maletic had 7 or 8 points and made shots. Wight wasn't flashy but did his job all night and seemed to gain some confidence. Moss was aggressive and smart pushing the ball and making hockey assists to get plays in motion. wilson was solid. cochran was raining shots on em. Lorentsson had a good game. Wow! Far more excited about the MAC tourney now than I was yesterday.

agree that next year we'll probably lose Wight and the Doughboys Trio. actually like both Thomas and Maretic's games. however, that leaves 2 open spots, not three. as we lose no seniors, have 1 current open roster spot and 2 signees coming in fall '24. I agree that one should be a starting level/6th man frontcourt player from the portal or juco, a big would be great but I'm good w another 6-7 forward who likes to rebound and attack the rim. the second should just be the best talent you can sign, transfer juco frosh any position. we got high potential frosh coming in at wing and big. Ode is almost certain to play. I'd imagine Ouwinga too. Brcic staying and doing a redshirt would make sense. that would give us a frontcourt of 5th yr sr Lorentsson, jr newcomer, 3rd yr soph Simmons, 2nd yr redshirting Fr Brcic, 1st yr Fr Ouwinga

For more scenario creator here (stolen from the Akron boards, thank them)- https://bball.notnothing.net/mac.php?sport=mbb

Where did Rowland say that? I didn't see it in his latest article that discusses UT MBB & WBB in the tournament and I don't see any tweets about it. And before UT lost to NIU, and when they were tied with Akron for first, the MAC said Akron had the tie-breaker.

https://x.com/KyleRowland/status/1765196...18807?s=20

And technically regular season champs don't have tiebreakers I think so we'd share that presuming an Akron win, but still get 1 seed in Cleveland.

Yes, they would clinch at least a tie. If Akron wins Friday, they tie; if Akron loses, UT wins outright.

Per the MAC website... https://getsomemaction.com/sports/2023/2...32059.aspx

Quote:Tiebreaker Procedure
Ties in winning percentage, and thus for Tournament seeding positions shall be broken according to the following.

Between TWO teams:
A. Head-to-head competition

B. Winning percentage* vs. ranked conference teams (top to bottom vs. common opponents regardless of the number of times played)
C. Coin flip
* - Winning percentage is used instead of record because of situations where teams do not play each other the same number of times. Therefore, a team that is 1-0 (1.000) would win the tiebreaker over a team that is 1-1 (.500).

Mhm 1 seed regardless with a Toledo win on Friday.

Hold up - I was thinking about this all wrong. I somehow forgot that UT and Akron tied the season series. I was thinking Akron won the season series for some reason.

Was at the game and thought the same thing. Lots of clutching and grabbing especially during the first half. Seemed like a boatload of fouls were then called during the first 6 minutes of the second half that weren’t called during the first half.

RE: Men's Hoops at Miami
Their guy Bultman, who scored 0, was a hoot going at it with Lorentssen.

Boltman, (looking around): “I’m gonna go push Simmons! No, wait, he’s huge, uh, I’ll push Cochran. No, wait, the guys almost square, uh, maybe Moss. No, he’s pretty chippy, I might get hurt. The Swede! Swedes are like Canadians. They’re all nice! I’ll push the Swede.”

He knew he was gonna get a foul. The ref told him he was gonna get a foul. It was pretty amusing. Might have been his only way to get a digit in the stat line.

Where has THIS team been the last two games?

Yea, that was funny with Andre. They must not read the scouting reports where all his buddies are hockey fans, along with him. He has sure turned into the scrapper. Good on him. Love the guy.

I might be wrong, but I don't think the huge guy ever had a point until there was about 6 minutes left. Impressive if true. He only finished with 6 points - on two 3 pointers. And only 1 board. Hunter with only 2 as well.

Let's hope THIS team shows up the next 4 games.

RE: Men's Hoops at Miami
While I love the overall balance of Toledo this season, for my money, Tyler Cochran is the MVP of this team with what he does on both ends of the court. Over the past 6 games, he is averaging close to 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals per game. He could be the difference maker for us in Cleveland even though we will need everyone's best efforts over those 3 Days!

At the end of the final media timeout, Steve Easton got K’s attention to tell him that EMU had beaten Akron. K told moss. That spread quickly and the bench went from just relaxing at end of a blowout to visibly pumped. These guys want to keep the conference title streak going.

RE: Men's Hoops at Miami
The EMU/Akron game was a gift from the basketball gods. A break - for Toledo!!!!!!!!!!! How cool is that.

That has to pump them up. Hoping Ford and Gee can get healthy. As someone said a few weeks ago - three games in three days in the tourney is tough - you will need the bench. So true.

We have an entirely different team, but a good one. This team plays more physical and fast paced than we've had in years. They have better talent as well. That's on the coaching staff - good for them. If I remember right one year we got whooped by Kent because they bodied us around because they could. That wouldn't happen with this team. We do the bodieding (new word, I just invented it). :-)

A couple of games ago one of the announcers were talking about how we lost Ray J and Rollins and what this team would look like if they had them. Interesting. We are that close. The players have gotten better, we just need them at the right time.

The future is bright, no matter what happens in the next few weeks.

It looked like they showed that on the broadcast (Coach K and staff got the news) - I wish I was a lip reader.

Yep, UT was playing pretty loose after storming out to a 20 point lead, maybe that was the reason throughout the game why so many turnovers. Moss looking to pass then score, that's alright, get others in the scoring column. Bring on the flashes and let's get the # 1 seed, hands down. I thought the ref closes to Andre and that goof from Miami, the ref should have said something to the goofball; give him space or else you are getting the foul. That right there another player with the exception of Andre, especially Moss would have gotten into his face and had some words. That would have been all on that Black ref.

Before the inbounds the ref separated the two and clearly told Bultman to back off. As soon as the ref handed off the ball Bultman started up again knowing full well he was going to get called. Stupid.

Same time I tuned into the game on ESPN+. I had to do a double take on the score and the time left in the first half. They really didn't play all that great after I turned it on. seemed to have a lot of turnovers and not so great defense - even though they stretched that lead out from 20 points to I believe 37 points at one time. That was a big can of Whoop-a$$ they opened up down in Oxford.
