Not really, the roles have been reversed. It would have been embarrassing for UC to beat Houston during this time frame.
I can only hope that the coaches and players feel differently than you do.

Same here. I am also a long time Purdue fan and remember fans complaining about Keady who actually had a winning record vs. Knight. And they have even complained about Painter. UC doesn't have an offensive go to plan. UC defends and rebounds pretty well, but there isn't an identity. UC is also awful finishing fastbreaks.

No doubt. The diagnosis really hasn't changed since the beginning of Big 12 play. They are lacking the alpha go to guy. I personally think that guy could have been Jizzle, but that's a lot to ask of a freshman. I don't know the dynamics of the team so maybe that was impossible. I still maintain they have a bunch of talent - just missing a Cumberland or even a Nolley to go to when a bucket is needed.
They also don't even seem to have a leader on the court. Watching them, i don't get a sense that there is a certain guy that everyone looks to to settle things down when things aren't going their way. Maybe Newman is probably the closest to that?

I agree with almost all of this. I think it is Newman which is why his struggles the last few weeks have really hurt. I think he missed 3 layups the first 5 minutes tonight.

Newman is that guy but he's not good enough to get a bucket on his own. Honestly, i'd be good with running some offense for him. Maybe even a clear out where he gets to back down another guard. Probably wouldn't work against Houston but it might be more viable against other teams.

BYU wins at Kansas.
I think it’s safe to say Wes Miller’s team has underperformed this season and questions about his coaching acumen are well warranted.

Bwahahahah! Hooray metrics!
We jumped 4 spots in Kenpom with the loss. From 47 to 43.
12th place with the longest current losing streak in the B12...we keep it up we will be in the top 30 in no time.

Honest question: In how many B12 games (plus X and UD) has UC had the best player on the floor? How often under Cronin did UC have the best player on the floor vs high major competition? How often under Huggins?
Answer these questions, and you will have a clue about the 35 year trajectory of the program.

Huggins most of the time, Cronin sometimes, Miller not an all this year, maybe DDJ or Nolley last season could have counted last year but the supporting cast sucked. My argument last year was that DDJ was a bad (when compared to SK, Jarron, Logan) alpha but at least he was one. Nolley was a good secondary option, Vik was a solid 3 but the rest of the roster was mid-major. This year the role players have improved but your first and second options are missing. Just adding DDJ to replace Day Day and Nolley for Fredrick or finding similar level guys would have made this roster so much better. The guard plays sucks and that is recipe to struggle.

I think this is exactly right down to if Landers had stayed this would be a,tournament team.

That won’t happen with other league refs.
They just walked into the best basketball conference in year 1 and took the conference championship. Kansas 17 out of last 19 years. Houston top dog now. Their shooting leaves a little to be desired but damn everything else.

Honestly, their 3 main guards are all good shooters, but if you watch a lot of Houston you'll see they just take a lot of bad shots. Of course, I think part of that is by design. They take a lot of runners where the defense if out of position and the offensive glass opens up. They also take too many contested threes off the dribble.
Shead is in a bit of a slump but Cryer and Sharp both are going to knock them down when they are open. I think Shead will come back around.

Plus Nolley might be making more as a Bearcat than in G-league.

Lakhin is clearly the best 5 on the team; just needs to be used properly in the low post, not pretending to be a stretch 4.
agree
I think Wes wanted to go faster and it didn't work out. When you needed a bucket you could set a play for Lak.
if this was stated explicitly, i apologize for missing it but my feeling was that this was a lesser talented team that played to the pace that Houston established. Houston plays a frantic style and pace on both ends, but especially on defense. Our offense got sped up trying to compete. i feel like a lot of those misses were hurried and shot by players that were looking over their shoulder or lacking in confidence.
And given how much contact the refs let Houston get away with, i only partially blame them.
i 100% cosign your post about throwing bows. One of the reasons why Danny Fortson is a top 5 Bearcat for me is because he didn't have the athleticism that a lot of bigs had, so he leveraged his size and "width" to create space and establish position. He would frequently use his arms to hold off defenders and make them work on the defensive end. Too many times our bigs cede that spot thinking they can get there by backing their man down. Danny did the opposite. He got their first and made the defender work to try and get him out of position. Little did they know that they were frequently playing themselves out of position and giving up a layup, a foul, or both.

Yet if the players would have made 4-5 more shots during the course of the game we would have defeated the #1 team on their own court.

I guess apathy set in for me. I completely forgot that UC was playing last night. I don't think I've ever done that or missed a game I intended to watch.
