+ 1 and he could bring Quinn McDowell back home with him :).

If you haven't been name checked on this board, you're not a serious candidate.

Jamion Christian made sense if we were going to make the change last year as he had some payout from GW left.

Stith and Byers seem like they would apply. The most serious on that list would seem to be Merkel or Kimble. Not sure how any of the other 3 jump over those two unless Kimble or Merkel apply but lose interest during contract negotiation. Timing and confidence from Mann in making the change make me believe Kimble has expressed interest and he is nearly locked in. Merkel would be a good choice too. Excited to see who the pick is, but almost equally excited to see contract terms. If we're actually going to give competitive pay and not lock ourselves into idiotic incentives and extensions this could be a big step in the right direction.

I agree. Kimble or Merkel are both options I like, John Krikorian at CNU is also an option, similar resume to Merkel.

Not crazy about Stith, the NBA experience is neat, but you'd sorta think that with NBA connections he'd have a bigger job than UNCG assistant by now.

Throwing in Kenny Blakeney. Played at Duke, a lot of experience as an assistant at good schools, and 2023 MEAC Coach of the Year. Currently HC at Howard.

Many good Candidates. The ball is in AD Mann's court while we listen to Carly Simon's "Anticipation":

Now, if we only had this many quality candidates in the upcoming election...

If Coach K or Jim Boeheim like golf, maybe we pitch them on the idea of retiring to Kingsmill and taking on an assistant coaching role.

I am fine with Cox, Kimble or Kikorian. Let's make a quick decision and move on.

I think that Norman Dale would be a great pick. He shows great emotion on the sidelines, is not afraid to get a technical foul when it is needed, is really good at coaching a team short on depth, won a national championship at Dane’s Alma Mater, and talked a former star player into returning to the team If he is not willing to come out of retirement, I would be really excited by either David or Kotie.

I've seen enough of his picket fence offense. No thank you. On second thought, is Jimmy Chitwood still available in the portal?

I'll be curious if Mann has a list of guys he likes or if he leaves it to a search firm. He used a firm for the hiring of wbb coach E. Since that worked out so well, I'd be surprised if he didn't go the same route and use a firm to form his short list. "National search" screams search firm. TBH, I bet he does a combo of both. Uses the search firm to put together an outside the box national list of candidates as well as interviewing guys he may like. Whatever it takes to feel like he got the best guy.

RE: Coaching Search Big Board
This is the history of W&M MBB head coaches since I matriculated:

Balanis: quit to go to Nike
Parkhill, Bruce: left for Penn State
Parkhill, Barry: fired
Swenson: fired
Woollum: retired
Boyages: quit to become assistant @ Ohio State
Shaver: fired
Fischer: fired

W&M was a stepping stone for 1 coach.
W&M lost 1 coach to retirement.
W&M was abandoned by 2 coaches.
W&M fired 4 coaches.

Yeah it's incredible, we haven't had a coach go on to become a D1 coach elsewhere (at any point in their career) in over 40 years.

Mann has used that firm for three other hires including Coach E.
