Wendy’s to start surge pricing in 2025; as it will cost more or less based on demand
What in the world? Just make your own baconator for much less. Because of inflation $20 doesn’t get you much any more. This is ridiculous

Quote:Wendy’s will start experimenting with surge pricing, much like Uber and Lyft, as the company rolls out digital menus to all its United States restaurants by 2025, according to the company’s February earnings call. Under the test, burgers, Frosties, and other menu items will have “dynamic prices,” costing more during times of increased demand.

Beginning as early as 2025, we will begin testing more enhanced features like dynamic pricing,” said Wendy’s CEO Kirk Tanner on Feb. 15’s earnings call. “We are planning to invest approximately $20 million to roll out digital menu boards to all US company-operated restaurants by the end of 2025.”

Part of the benefit of these digital menu boards is you can change prices as much as you’d like. Consumers are familiar with surge pricing through rideshare services like Uber and Lyft, where prices fluctuate significantly depending on demand. Dynamic pricing is a relatively new concept in the fast-food world, with little precedent. The fluid prices change given supply, demand, competitor pricing, and other external factors that can be algorithmically calculated.

A Wendy’s Baconator costs $12.24 in New York City, but under dynamic pricing, that price could fluctuate throughout the day. The burger could increase in price around lunchtime or go down during a slow afternoon. Wendy’s did not provide details as to how severely prices could fluctuate.

Tanner expects dynamic pricing will result in immediate sales growth, but it’s a risky approach. A majority of consumers (52%) say dynamic pricing is equivalent to price gouging, and 65% say it makes the decision of where to eat more difficult, according to a Capterra survey.

I can make 4 grass fed, no antibiotics, lean, tasty AF burgers at home for $5. Plus the cost of buns and condiments. F' Wendys.

I’ve discovered certain things at ALDIs that’s great for its price. They have grass fed beef and pastured eggs for much less than most major food chains. They also have European cheese which is real cheese and not that Kraft junk

Other than an occasional Frostee, I haven't been to Wendy's in probably a decade.

I was in Orlando for a conference. Flight got in late, Wendy's was the only thing around my hotel that was open. Burger sucked, fries were greasy and nasty, Frostee was the only thing I could get down.

If people will start wisely cooking at home again and occasionally go out to a fast food joint then most of these businesses will either adapt accordingly or go out of business but unfortunately many people go to a Wendy’s or McDonald’s for breakfast lunch and dinner and do it practically everyday. I’ve seen people at work do this exact thing

My guess is this will not be well received. Interestingly enough, the Wendy's closest to me just recently closed. I'm not sure what Wendy's is thinking with this move. McDonald's has already admitted it's losing business from a segment of its customer base due to higher prices. Can't see why Wendy's would increase prices.

What facts? How does "Wendys make money as a corporation" have anything at all to do with the thread topic.

You seek help boy.

Here's a good article on McDonald's and their challenges to get pricing to the best point for them.

As it loses customers to grocery stores, McDonald's shifts gears on pricing

Reminder to the resident “blame the greedy corporation” folks that nearly all the Wendy’s locations are owned by a franchisee, not the corporation.

Wendys is already at a price point well above McDonalds. Consumers will absolutely see this as price gouging---and I suspect this experiment will be very short lived.

There’s a Wendy’s near my office that I can go to without having to get on a main road. I grab the 2 for $3 breakfast occasionally. Their sausage and biscuit ain’t bad.

Lady I work with went to the one in millington this weekend. Her and her husband were 3rd in line when they walked in. 52 minutes to order and get their food from time they walked in.

My guess is this is more to deal with labor shortages than anything. Spread to crowd to keep order times more consistent.

Used to love it, then they changed their ingredients or supplier or something & it hasn't been the same. Of the major fast food chains, it went from my favorite to my least favorite.

To echo another thread: fast food is good but it has to be in moderation - like everything

Doubt that it's "well" above. But you also get much more meat in a hamburger than at McDonald's where all the patties but the quarter pounder are 1/10 of a pound pre-cook. Wendy's singles are a quarter pound pre cook.
