Seems like we should have an official thread to talk about this instead of it being relegated to threads with other primary discussions. A press conference has been scheduled for noon today.

For as much as I have been frustrated the past few years, Jeff Jones came to an ODU team that went 5-25, and brought us back to respectability in the first part of his tenure here, and has always carried himself with class. I'll never forget the Trey Freeman years and especially never forget the NIT game vs Murray State which might be my favorite ODU basketball game I've ever attended! Wishing him the best as he goes into retirement having won over 560 games in his career, while also seeming to have won over the respect of many of his peers in College Basketball, and more importantly hoping the best for him as he tries to win over his current health issues. Take care, Coach.

Probably will have to wait and see who the replacement will be. I am willing to bet a lot of money that Brooks will not be back.

I’m happy for the program to finally be moving on, but feel bad about the circumstances. That’s mostly on Wood and should probably cost him his job. It is really easy to say Jeff should have retired after the year we made the tournament, but walking away from what you have done and loved for decades has to be insanely difficult. I wish him and his family the best.

Since Jeff is "retiring" does that mean ODU doesn't have to pay the buyout? Would be nice to save that money.

I am thinking that will be answered for you and other folks at the noon press conference. It has already been worked out but not sure when it will be announced.

I enjoyed the JJ years up until his health started to decline. I always enjoyed listening to his Post Game interview and weekly radio shows. He obviously is a pure basketball guy.

I pray for his health, peace and prosperity.

First, you have to look at the terms of that last contract to determine if a buyout is needed. I have not seen it, but my guess is that it was just a paper thing to help recruiting (which is probably why there was no major announcement).

Same. He really should have retired after the NCAA game. You could tell things were starting to decline in the program already, and his health had taken a turn. He could have gone out on top.

Woo boy....quite the presser. JJ is a good dude - you can just tell by listening to him. Hate that the end of the line came like this. It's time, and I think we all know it. But I wish he could have gone out on a high note. Guess it doesn't normally get to work out that way for most coaches.

I will remember JJ the man, fondly - and I hope we are able to hire a similarly high character individual as his replacement.

I think one of the most noteworthy things so far in the press conference is that he might have gotten most worked up not about his retirement, but talking about Wade. It's very plain to see just how much he cares for his players.

Also a line that stuck out to me: "Happiness is really really underrated"

Thanks for the link... Sad this ended this way... He's got a great perspective on the game and how it's changed. Like his use of the word "scary" about how college athletics are changing. Also interesting and I agree how education means nothing these days in college athletics...
