Actually now 84, those early loses before team jelled are hurting us. Still only thing we can do is continue to win.

Central Michigan NET 255 H Q4
Maine NET 224 H Q4
Hofstra NET 124 R Q2
UMass NET 86 R Q2
UAB NET 117 R Q2
Those 2 Q4 home losses stung. Thing is, I don't know that those would've helped very much if you'd won those.
And I mean that sincerely... I don't know how it would've impacted your NET by winning those games.
Maybe as a conference we should say the Top 8 finishers should not schedule any team historically below 150 in the NET for road games and 100 for home. And maybe the bottom 6 shouldn't schedule below 200 for road and 150 for home.
I don't know... just thinking out loud.

USF NET now 84. Lowest NET to get an at large was Rutgers at 77. Need to keep winning.

Yes, we just have to keep winning. IMO we likely will have to win the AAC tournament to make the big dance. Those early season OOC losses were horrendous from a NET/RPI perspective.

I think beating UCF and Maine wouldn't have helped our NET any, but losing them has I think hurt a lot. So I think our NET would be significantly higher had we won them, not because they would have given us a boost, but because we would have avoided the hit. But I admit I don't know everything about how NET works.

The Q4 losses don't hurt the NET in a vacuum, it's how they played in those losses. And the human side sees 2 Q4 losses and really dings anyone for it.

It is what it is. The team playing now wasn’t the team playing those early games. Coach still hadn’t come up with the current rotation.
But you can’t go back and change that. The facts are that no one at the start of season was thinking this could be a Tournament team, or one that could win the league.
The out of conference schedule was geared not for a Tournament run, but one to go over .500
Most USF fans realize this and know that only way to Tournament is to win AAC Tournament and that an NIT bid is more realistic. But if this team keeps playing as it is winning AAC Tournament is a possibility

Sorry for my ignorance... This has not been a question that USF fans have had to worry about... ;-)
How does the regular season record, tournament placement (winning it), all figure to who is the conference champion?
Is the tournament winner the champion outright? It's possible that team does not have the top conference record?

The League recognizes both
Regular Season Champion
Tournament Champion
The Tournament Champion gets the AQ Bid to NCAA Tournament
Last year
Houston was Regular Season Champ
Memphis won Tournament Champ
The Regular Season champ gets the #1 seed in Tournament

I really hope that USF makes the NIT if they don't win the conference tournament/make the big dance. The NCAA really screwed up the NIT with the rule changes this year. The top 2 teams from the 6 power leagues who didn't quality for the NCAA get the top 12 seeds in the NIT. That means the NIT will be filled with power conference teams with really bad records, who don't deserve to be there, and better teams will be left out. I kind of understand if you don't want to invite the regular season champ of the 30th ranked conference, but the regular season Champs of at least the top 10-15 conferences deserve an invite, IMO.
One more way college athletics is being ruined.

USF was #31 in the AP & #29 in the coaches last week I believe. Will they crack the top 25 this week with every team outside of the top 10 (except for #18 St Mary’s) losing at least one game last week?

To answer my question, USF comes in at #25 in the coaches’ poll. Still waiting on the AP.
