Dare I say, coach K should be MAC coach of the year. When you look at what we lost and how much offense graduated or transferred. Playing a roster of essential 6'2" players, starting two freshman. With five games to go and tied for 1st. Who else is doing a better job this season. Not many would have predicted we'd be here in the standings at this point in the season.

Really changed the whole style of play to suit the talent. Last year Shumate or Dennis got the shots in clutch time, this year it’s offense by committee. Far deeper bench as well.

I think I would take a hard look at cmu head coach

CMU with a run away unless they lose like the next 5 and Toledo wins out. Groce has the best roster. WMU may be in consideration as well. Possibly BGs If they run the table.

If there's any justice in selecting the coach of the year, you are absolutely right (assuming Central does not have a late season swoon which I don't think will happen).

Yeah, Coach K has done his usual good job, but they were supposed to be where they are.

Must agree but Emanoh is right - TK's done a hell of a job. It isn't the roster TK thought he was going to have via anticipated additional portal help but he's made do and somehow thrived.

Says you. I in no way thought UT was going to be as good as they have been in league play so far. I did not think we would contend for a 4th straight regular season title but here we are in late February tied for 1st. Rockets lost a ton of talent and production from last year. I give credit to coaching.

I wonder if TK and Groce will be consider for P5 jobs ?

While TK has done an excellent job building and maintaining a quality Mid Major Program, he lacks the one important thing that would "legitimize" his standing in the upper tier of Mid Major coaches and thus be a strong candidate for a P5 Job - NCAA Tournament Appearance(s). Unfair as that sounds, a Power 5 AD would have a hard time trying to sell TK or any Mid Major Coach to a P5 Alumni, Donors, Season Ticketholder, and general fanbase without at least 1 NCAA Tournament appearance on their resume. I think that is the major reason why you rarely ever hear his name being talked about on potential candidates for openings at P5 Programs. If TK can get that monkey off his back, and its a big monkey, then I think some opportunities would possibly open up for him as he has a track record that any Power 5 AD would want in a Coach, i.e. graduates his players, no off the court issues, etc.

While I agree the MAC is down this season, crazy things happen in a 3-day tournament that can impact team performance, i.e. like star players getting hurt during games (T. Fletcher), injured before games (W. Jackson), or mysteriously don't play well (Shumate). While those sound like excuses, those things can impact how a team plays on a particular night or weekend. As for this season, I think Toledo has an excellent chance of winning the tournament, but based on the two games played this season, Akron is going to be a very tough opponent most likely in the Finals and Toledo will have to earn it!

Let's all hope perhaps UA will lose in their initial game, but CMU looks like the real deal inside the MAC.

He may very well end up going to the tournament. The caveat is whether or not the team will be back in their dorms watching on TV. Again.

Just never know how these things will work out, and there is no invite for winning the regular season title.
