Congrats to Grace Breyer.
Meanwhile Caitlin Clark scored 49 points Thursday night for Iowa playing against Michigan. Clark now has passed Kelsey Plum to become the all time Ncaa D1 women's scorer. Clark now has 3569 points total.

My daughter played NAIA ball in college in the same conference as Beyer and played against and guarded her many times.

RE: Grace Beyer- 3,800+ career points and counting
Here’s a recent piece about women’s basketballs top career scorer. Nice that she is remembered and gets some deserved attention. It’s doubtful little Caitlin will have enough games left to get near the record.
https://www.wspa.com/sports/the-womens-s...is-year-2/
And here’s another article about Miss Pearl. She’s been getting a lot of interview requests as of late. Good for her.
Pearl’s 4000+ points came with no 3 point shot and before women started playing with the girls ball.

RE: Grace Beyer- 3,800+ career points and counting
Grace Beyer became the NAIA’s all time career scoring leader in her final regular season game. She needed 14 points and scored 32 in the win on her home court against Hannibal-LaGrange University.
Next up for her is a first round American Midwest Conference tournament game. University of Health Science and Pharmacy (until recently St Louis College of Pharmacy) does not have a resume for an at large NAIA national tournament bid, so her final game is likely coming soon.
I’ll post an article about it later. Fortunately, she should receive some nice recognition.
https://www.eutecticsports.com/sports/wb...w=boxscore
With only one guaranteed game left, her next challenge is score 1,000 points in this season alone (28 games so far). She is at 964 and is averaging 34.4.

RE: Grace Beyer- 3,800+ career points and counting
Free throws have been key to her scoring down the stretch. In 13 games since mid January, she is 169 out of 172 for over 98%. Included in this stretch are perfect free throw games of 17, 16, 16, 15, 13, 12, and 12. Another she went 21 of 22.
As part of this stretch, she hit over 90 straight without a miss. Even then, her streak ended on her 21st of 22, with 51 seconds remaining in a game she played all 40 minutes. Simply incredible shooting.
For the season, she is a little over 92%, but has been on fire lately.

RE: Grace Beyer- 3,800+ career points and counting
So if I understand correctly both Beyer and Caitlin Clark are in their 4th year of elligibility. I know Clark has the option to use a 5rh year of elligibility since her freshman year in 2020-2021 was a Covid year. If Clark would come back for her 5th year, she could probably easily pass John Pierce on the all time scoring list.
Does Beyer have a similar option to play a 5th year next year?

Article about Grace Beyer from Victory Sports Network, a site that covers all things NAIA.
https://victorysportsnetwork.com/2024/02...ng-record/
Regarding the question from above about a 5th year. I don’t know for sure. I don’t see any reason she wouldn’t, because I believe the NAIA is doing the same as the NCAA with COVID issues.

Beyer is a 4th year senior. She could play another year if she wanted to. UHSP has graduate programs so she might stick around for another year. Or she could do the Stephanie Soares move and transfer as a GS to a D1 with a graduate program that appeals to her.

UHSP is best known for its 6 year combined Bachelor/PharmD program which saves students a year. I believe that’s what she is in.
Whether she plays another year or not, my guess would be that she won’t transfer and play somewhere else. But that’s just my hunch.

I am rethinking this. As a 4th year senior, that means her first year was 20/21, but the extra COVID year of eligibility was awarded for the 19/20 season (was COVID really 5 seasons ago already?!?!). So I think this is her last year. I guess the COVID year eligible people we are still seeing were those that were red shirts that year and are actually in their 6th year of eligibility? Am I think correctly about this?

I don't get particularly invest in women's basketball, so this statement is kinda weird to me. What is your connection to Grace Beyer, or what is the cause of your intense dislike of Clark? Did she spurn you one year for prom?

RE: Grace Beyer- 3,800+ career points and counting
I looked it up.
For NCAA D1, if you played any sport during the 2020-2021 school year, you get an extra year of elligibilty due to Covid. Which is why Caitlin Clark would get a 5th year next year if she wants it.
For NAIA, it's pretty similar. If you played a 2020 fall sport (like women's volleyball) , or a 2020-2021 winter sport (like women's basketball), then you get an extra year of elligibility. But if you played a 2021 spring sport (like women's softball) you don't get the extra year in NAIA.
I guess the original thinking was that even though women's basketball played pretty much a full season in 2020-2021, all the games were played with no fans in the stands, which was not fair to those year's seniors, so they gave the seniors an extra year. Eventually this exception was extended to all basketball players that played in 2020-2021.

Pharmacy is a pretty intense subject to study so I don’t know if she’d want to invest the time required for basketball with her course load. But if she wants to keep playing I don’t see why she wouldn’t otherwise. I doubt NAIA talent translates well to the WNBA and she’ll make more money as a pharmacist anyway.

Caitlin Clark scored 33 points against Minnesota wed night, with the 17th triple-double of her career. She now has passed Lynette Woodard on the all time scoring list. Clark now has 3650 points total and sits just 17 points shy of Pete Maravich. Clark also set a new NCAA record for 3-pointers in a season. And oh yeah, Iowa won 108-60.

Stephanie Soares?
In general you are correct but there are exceptions. Beyer may be too. One of the articles cited in this thread noted how many top D1 programs she rejected because she wanted to go to UHSP. She is not typical NAIA talent.
