Just a Trojan Horse to bind Trump with an open border. Never ever give democrats what they ask for. There is always a snake hiding in the grass.

RE: The Lankford Border Compromise
White House Demands Speaker Johnson Give Biden ‘Authority and Funding’ to ‘Secure The Border’

Senator Mike Lee:

Schumer And McConnell Want Senators To Pass Their $106B Border Bill Without Reading It? Hell No

Quote:Yesterday, a reporter standing outside the Senate chamber told me that after four months of secrecy, The Firm️ plans to release the text of the $106 billion supplemental aid/border-security package — possibly as soon as today.

Wasting no time, she then asked, “If you get the bill by tomorrow, will you be ready to vote on it by Tuesday?”

The words “hell no” escaped my mouth before I could stop them. Those are strong words where I come from. (Sorry, Mom.)

The reporter immediately understood that my frustration was not directed at her. Rather, it was directed at the Law Firm of Schumer & McConnell (The Firm️), which is perpetually trying to normalize a corrupt approach to legislating, in which The Firm️:

Spends months drafting legislation in complete secrecy
Aggressively markets that legislation based not on its details and practical implications (good and bad), but only on its broadest, least-controversial objectives
Lets members see bill text for the first time only a few days (sometimes a few hours) before an arbitrary deadline imposed by The Firm️ itself, always with a contrived sense of urgency
Forces a vote on the legislation on or before that deadline, denying senators any real opportunity to read, digest, and debate the measure on its merits, much less introduce, consider, and vote on amendments to fix any perceived problems with the bill or otherwise improve it.
Whenever The Firm️ engages in this practice, it largely excludes nearly every senator from the constitutionally prescribed process in which all senators are supposed to participate. By so doing, The Firm️ effectively disenfranchises hundreds of millions of Americans — at least for purposes relevant to the legislation at hand — and that’s tragic. It’s also un-American, uncivil, uncollegial, and really uncool.

So why does The Firm️ do it?

Every time The Firm️ utilizes this approach and the bill passes — and it nearly always does — The Firm️ becomes more powerful.

The high success rate is largely attributable to the fact that The Firm️ has become very adept at (a) enlisting the help of the (freakishly cooperative) corporate media, (b) exerting peer pressure in a way that makes what you experienced in middle school look mild by comparison, and © rewarding those who consistently vote with The Firm️ with various privileges that The Firm️ is uniquely capable of offering, such as committee assignments, help with campaign fundraising, and a whole host of other widely coveted things that The Firm️ is free to distribute in any manner it pleases.

It’s through this process that The Firm️ passes most major spending legislation. And it’s through this process that The Firm️ likely intends to pass the still-secret, $106 billion supplemental aid/border-security package, which The Firm️ has spent four months negotiating with the luxury of obsessing over every sentence, word, period, and comma.

I still don’t know exactly what’s in this bill, although I have serious concerns with it based on the few details The Firm️ has been willing to share. But under no circumstances should this bill — which would fund military operations in three distant parts of the world and make massive, permanent changes to immigration law — be passed next week.

Nor should it be passed until we have had adequate time to read the bill, discuss it with constituents, debate it, offer amendments, and vote on those amendments.

There’s no universe in which those things will happen by next week.

Depending on how long it is and the complexity of its provisions, the minimum period of time we should devote to this bill after it’s released should be measured in weeks or months, not days or hours.

Their idea of compromise, again, is when they get whatever they want and their opposition gets nothing and thanks them for it. I applaud Lee for the passionate speech but understand it's very probable that they are ultimately just hollow words.

RE: The Lankford Border Compromise
My border compromise:
1) A rational and logical national immigration policy, including a points-based merit system like the rest of the world, passed into law
2) Specific recognition of a federal duty to protect state borders and a state's right to protect its borders pursuant to Conststution, Article 4 Section 4 and Article 1 Section 10 Clause 3.
3) A wall, fence, or cmparable physical barrier along the border, wherever possible; this would include land borders of California, Arizona, and New Mexico
4) Increased electronic and personal surveillance along river borders of Texas (Rio Grande) and Arizona (Colorado) in the manner proposed by Will Hurd, who probably knows more about the border than anyone else
5) Permanent guest worker status available to those who previously entered illegally but have been productive citizens, with the right to remain and work but no path to citizenship unless they either return to their home country and do the process right, by the numbers, or see item 6
6) Citizenship for anyone who serves a full hitch in the US military with an honorable discharge (I could never understand why Filipino stewards on US Navy ships were not automatically offered citizenship)
7) Significant increase in resources to provide a) sufficient personnel and equipment to perform 100% surveillance and enforcement along the entirety of the border, b) sufficient facilities to hold all immigrants until proper vetting can be performed, c) sufficient personnel, including judges, to expedite processing of immigrants in a timely manner (all cases disposed within 30 days), d) working with Mexico to provide holding facilities on the Mexican side of the border for immigrants, in arder to slow the flow into the USA
8) For immigrants requesting asylum, the asylum petition must be filed prior to entering the USA (like Canada policy) and all asylum requests are subject to the first safe nation provision of the Geneva Convention
9) Replace Mayorkas with Will Hurd
10) Nobody who enters illegally has a path to citizenship, except as noted above
11) If you are in the USA illegally and commit a felony, you serve your time and then are immediately deported and not allowed to return
12) No birthright citizenship unless both parents were in the USA legally (this probably requires a constitutional amendment)
13) Pass these provisions as statutes and try to incorporate as many as possible into a constitutional amendment
14) Enforce bans against hiring of illegals in conjunction with significant upgrade to E-Verify to provide timely processing; allow a safe harbor to employ people while waiting on E-Verify results

RE: The Lankford Border Compromise
Sh1tmer and McTurtle are opposite sides of the same Senate corruption old-timers' club (OTC).

The common sense Senators should simply refuse to vote on such an important bill with the OTC required expedited vote and passage. Sorry, OTC, you deep state longtimers do NOT get to:
A) Spend 4+ months carefully drafting every sentence in new legislation that will impact every citizen in the USA...and then....
B) Give the rest of the Senators maybe 6 hours to "look it over" before REQUIRING an immediate vote after that 6 hours...or whatever BS minimal timeframe to "review" such an import bill.

To hell with that BS. Every Senator and their staff will be allowed at least a month to review the draft bill and raise questions/issues/arguments. Ideally a full quarter, set the vote for the summer session that commences on July 5.

The plotting jack@sses can more properly use the 4-6 hour mandate for a vote on this bill as a suppository.

Close the thread on this point. Media keeps talking about bipartisan bill as though there’s opposing sides coming together when it’s all the same side of the issue [uniparty] trying to screw the American people

There is also bipartisan opposition to it in the house. Not sure about the senate, as dem senators typically get on their knees in front of schumer. But there is certanly bipartisan opposition to it in the house, especially from TX dem house members.
