OT: BC HC Jeff Hafley to Green Bay DC
BC’s head coach is leaving Chestnut Hill to take the DC job in Green Bay. I think it is quite noteworthy a P5 HC is leaving their job to take a coordinator position in the NFL. From what I read the business side of college sports had as much to do with this decision as anything else.

Yes - if college is going pro (and it is), you may as well coach in the real pros.

Yep and it has come so correctly. Within the past two years (possibly even one) it was still fair to say a head coaching gig at a P5 job was superior to an assistant role because there were only so many of those positions and it led potentially a better, more financially lucrative job.

He was a dead man walking at BC...this just screams getting out before you're told to leave. I don't think it'll be much of a trend.

I don’t think his job was in jeopardy quite yet. Steve Addazio was there for 7 years and had a comparable W/L record. From everything I read they were quite pleased with their progress this past season and felt the program was moving in the right direction. Plus, I think BC understands they aren’t Clemson, their norm 6-7 wins most years with the occasional season where they go 9-4/10-3.

Before leaving, he had the 3rd "best" odds to be the first coach fired in FBS next season on betMGM.

You don't have to recruit in the NFL.

Besides, what's cooler? The Green Bay Packers... or Boston College?

No, it signifies the end of college football because players are being paid . . .

But they were being exploited by the universities with those measly little full scholarships. 03-hissyfit

I'm probably reading way too much into this, but if the ACC is destabilized by realignment following recent reports about FSU leaving, Boston College probably envisions a future similar to WSU/OSU from the Pac 12. These are not the best of times in major college football.

Boston College would likely be looking at a UConn situation, not even a WSU/OSU situation.

I'm guessing it was a combination of issues for Hafley. But it sounds like Herbie thinks it could become a trend:

Now there is talk of Chip Kelly to the vacant OC position with the Commanders.

Smart move to head to the NFL if the $$ is right. Get the hell away from recruiting and managing kids and their handlers who want $$ just to take a campus visit. Get rid of having to deal with portal headaches in spring and fall. Coaching pros rather than semi pros makes sense.
